Delaware Township is Hiring a Zoning Inspector Near Delaware, OH

Under the general direction of the Township Trustees, the Zoning Inspector shall administer and enforce Township Zoning Resolutions and adherence to the Township Comprehensive Plan while working with the Board of Zoning Commission (BZC), the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA), the Zoning Secretary and or the Fiscal Officer, and the Township Trustees.

The Zoning Inspector should expect to directly interact with the Township residents and the public in general, representing the Township on zoning matters.

The Zoning Inspector, as needed, should also expect to directly interact with Delaware County Officials from, but not limited to, the Building Department, Regional Planning, Soil and Water, and Assistant Prosecutor’s when necessary.

The primary and regular duties of the Zoning Inspector include the issuance and/or denial of permits, dealing with zoning violations, record-keeping in coordination with the either the Zoning Secretary and or Fiscal Officer, and other duties, as needed. This is a part-time position; however, hours could fluctuate with increased or decreased Zoning activities. The duties of the Zoning Inspector are those prescribed, authorize, or limited by the Board of Trustees and normally include the following.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school graduate or the equivalent required
  • Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license.

DUTIES:

1. In General:

· Issue zoning permits based upon the Township Zoning Resolution (zoning code).

· Answer questions relating to land use, zoning districts, and the zoning code for the public.

· Conduct on-site inspections as necessary.

· Investigate violations and order the discontinuance of uses, activities, and/or structures violating zoning code and ordering the action necessary to correct such violations.

· Observing the Township and making note of obvious problems, violations and/or land use issues including junk vehicles and nuisance violations.

· Take any other action authorized by the zoning code to insure compliance with or to prevent violation of the zoning code.

· Be primary contact point within the Township for Regional Planning and coordinate Township representation at scheduled Regional Planning Meetings as appropriate to represent Township interests within Regional Planning.

· Familiarity and occasional use of the County GIS web site for determining parcel information and other relevant details online.

· Use of the township IT systems to input permits, organizing relevant information in spreadsheets, the use of a word processor as needed for written correspondences, and along with Township email / internet and RingCentral APP for texting and voice communications.

· On request of the Trustees, from input from Regional Planning, or periodically as needed - conduct research regarding sections of the zoning code that may require updating based upon issues that arise or due to changes in the law and insights from BZC meetings.

· Maintain the Township BZC and BZA membership roster for each of the boards and work with Township IT staff to update web site as needed. Alert Trustees of any changes and open positions on the Boards and assist in recruiting residents as needed to fill open positions.

· Produce a monthly Zoning Report of all the activity regarding the zoning office for submission to monthly Board of Trustee (BoT) regular meetings.

· Attend Board of Trustee (BoT) regular meetings and be prepared to elaborate and clarify any information contained on the Zoning Report.

2. Relating to the Board of Zoning Commission (BZC) and the Board of Zoning Appeals (BZA):

· Act as the board’s technical reference relating to Zoning and Township parcels.

· Work with Zoning Secretary and or the Fiscal Officers to become familiar with the requirements for providing public notice of BZC and BZA meetings and for hearings, and insure the meetings are advertise as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

· Thorough understanding of Township current Zoning Resolutions and Ohio Laws

· Effectively interacting and working with public officials, co-workers and the general public

· Skilled in the use of office technology and online systems used in Township role

· Comfortable and skilled in interpersonal communications (written and verbal)

· Organization and logistics skills relating to Zoning records and public meetings

· Familiar with site plans, Zoning regulations, and Township procedures

· Ability to maintain various zoning files, records, and working with the Fiscal Officer or other Township employees dealing financial records of receipts and expenditures related to Zoning.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $9,000.00 - $11,000.00 per year

Expected hours: 4 – 8 per week
