Essential Functions

CITY OF HENDERSON, KENTUCKY
CLASSIFICATION SPECIFICATION
CLASSIFICATION TITLE: GAS MEASUREMENT TECHNICIAN
PURPOSE OF CLASSIFICATION

The purpose of this classification is to perform meter and regulator maintenance work and provide assistance to higher level gas measurement technicians.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following duties are normal for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  • Maintains gas flow regulation equipment from multiple regulator stations to individual customers. Dowloading of pressure recorders, volume correctors, odorizers, and flow computers. Maintain calibration on transmitters for check measurement.
  • Maintains odorizers at two purchase stations; able to troubleshoot problems and obtain appropriate odorant readings; perform preventive maintenance on odorizers; inspect and troubleshoot all turbine, rotary, and diaphragm meters; set regulator and relief valve pressures.
  • Inspects reported non-working regulators and meters and make repairs as needed; repair any malfunctioning regulator or relief valve in the field. Able to calibrate all volume correctors and pressure recorders. Painting of all regulator stations and large volume meter sets.
  • Prepares a variety of reports, logs, and graphs; maintains the metercard program at all times; files and transmits as appropriate; completes all compliance issues in a timely manner.
  • Operates a variety of equipment in the performance of duties, such as a laptop, pressure gauges, temperature gauges, calibration equipment, software, tube bender, calculator, and mechanical tools.
  • Performs assigned tasks in accordance with Operator Qualification (OQ) Program. Must earn and maintain required qualifications.
  • Complete all DOT requirements within the scheduled time frame.
  • Inspects, calibrates, overhauls, and troubleshoots mechanical and electronic PLCs.
  • Builds, inspects, calibrates, troubleshoots Rosemont pressure transducers, differential pressure transmitters, and digital temperature transmitters.
  • Have basic understanding of electrical code and particular class one, division one, group D(section 500, flammable, explosive locations).
  • Able to install and troubleshoot modems both phone and ISP and experience in MODBUS instrument communication language.
  • Have solid working knowledge of Cathodic protection and related federal guidelines as applicable to natural gas pipelines.
  • Able to teach and learn in a large variety of settings and situations including the ability to study and learn on your own.
  • May be subject to Gas Servicer and/or Gas Distribution Technician duties including, but not limited to, locating lines, doing a leak check or survey.
  • May be subject to on call duties as a Gas Servicer, if qualifications and other requirements have been met.
  • Maintain regular and predictable in-person attendance during regular business hours of the City of Henderson is required.
  • Must undergo and successfully complete drug test and alcohol screening prior to employment and undergo and successfully complete future drug test and/or alcohol testing pursuant to the City's Drug and Alcohol policy

Performs other related duties as required, necessary, or assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

High school diploma or GED; supplemented by 12 months previous experience and/or training involving mechanical and electronic repair; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must qualify for Operator Qualification (OQ) certification. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.

Functional Reasoning : Requires the ability to apply principles of rational systems; to interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagrammatic, or schedule form; and to exercise independent judgment to adopt or modify methods and standards to meet variations in assigned objectives.
Situational Reasoning : Requires the ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable or verifiable criteria.
ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability : Tasks require the regular and sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that generally involves lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
Sensory Requirements : Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odor, depth, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental Factors : Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, rain, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, or toxic agents.
