Shaw University is Hiring a Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations Near Raleigh, NC

Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, the Director of Corporate & Foundation Relations is primarily
responsible for corporate and foundation relations and solicitations by developing a fundraising portfolio of new
prospects/investors and managing a portfolio of current donors. Establish and coordinate relationships,
communications to regularly to inform prospects and current donors of University information to develop and
maintain an ongoing giving and philanthropic relationship with the University. Responsibilities include
identification, strategic cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and other activities related to seeking and maintaining
corporate and foundation investments in the University.
Essential Job Functions:
•Manages (via research and identification, cultivation, solicitation, closure, stewardship) a portfolio of 100-
150 major gift level prospects.
•Generates seven, six, and five figure gifts to meet University unrestricted and restricted fundraising goals.
•Identify, cultivate, solicit, and maintain long-term relationships with local and national corporations and
foundations.
•Develop cultivation and solicitation strategies for new and previously identified corporate and foundation
prospects, working in collaboration with other staff in Institutional Advancement
•Leads the University corporate and foundation campaigns and fundraising priorities. Develops campaign
case statements and seeks collaborations and partnerships for campaign success.
•Utilizing a thorough understanding of the University's priorities, build productive relationships with faculty
and other staff to successfully identify and solicit leading corporate and foundation donors.
•Plan and implement all development activities concerning identified prospects-i.e., cultivation and
solicitation efforts, preparation of proposals, arranging for staff and faculty visits with prospective donors,
etc.
•Establish meaningful, collegial working relationships with IA colleagues and other University offices and
understand the roles and responsibilities of the offices and coordinate the activities of the different offices
to facilitate the establishment of relationships with corporations and foundations.
•Prepare documents such as budgets, giving/investment work plans, proposals, impact reports, and other
documents necessary to further revenue generating relationships and to achieve the revenue goals of the
University. In consultation with other units at the University, ensure that the documents align with the
policies and procedures set by the University.
•Actively identify funding opportunities provided by corporations and private foundations to achieve
investments to the University and to bring key, high priority initiatives to the attention of administrators and
other leaders.
•Organize Corporate and Foundation activities.
•Monitor and evaluate progress toward goals, provide statistical reports, on an ongoing basis and as
requested, and suggest/request appropriate research for corporate, foundation and auxiliary organization
prospects. Prepare/coordinate acknowledgments for all gifts received through the Office of
Advancement Services.
•Coordinate solicitation visits, calls for senior IA and University leadership.
•Prepare proposals to corporations, foundations, organizations, and private granting agencies.
•Some capital campaign responsibilities.
•All other related duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
•Bachelor's degree in marketing, business or other related field required; MBA preferred.
•Minimum of five years' experience in higher education fundraising, administration, or related fields in
complex organizations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
•Demonstrated knowledge of Raiser's Edge preferred.
•Excellent interpersonal skills required to relate to donor prospects, volunteers, and colleagues.
•Negotiating, organizational, analytical, and fundraising skills.
•Able to work independently with minimal supervision, a self-starter.
•Able to motivate and work with diverse constituencies.
•Possess a high level of integrity and can exercise confidentiality and discretion. Must be professional in all
respects.
•Preferred: Knowledge of a higher-education organization and its academic and administrative policies and
procedures.

Physical Demands
Ability to sit or stand for up to 8 hours/day and travel as required. Some lifting (up to 25 pounds occasionally),
bending, and carrying. The employee is regularly required to talk and hear, and to use hands and fingers to
handle or feel.
