Addiction Counselor Role Description

Qualifications: Addiction Counselor must have three (3) years of relevant experience. Excellent written and verbal skills are a requirement, in addition to familiarity with the theories, principles, and practices related to human development and behavioral health.

Requirement: The Addiction Counselor must have a current and valid (in good standing) and Board Approved Maryland certification as a CAC-AD, CAC-ADS LCADC. LCSW-C, LCPC. Must have experience with adolescents.

Reports To: Clinical Director

The Addiction Counselor facilitates the mission of the agency by providing direct counseling and case management services to clients inclusive of assessments, individualized treatment plans, individual and group counseling services.

The Addiction Counselor’s primary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Maintains a client caseload according to the Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) and Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) standards.
  • Works closely with the Clinical Director to ensure that clients’ needs are met.
  • Participates in weekly clinical and interdisciplinary team meetings.
  • Maintains compliance with assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, discharge summary, and referral services.
  • Provides individual addiction/substance education services.
  • Provides individual addiction/substance abuse counseling.
  • Provides group addiction/ substance abuse education services.
  • Provides group addiction/substance abuse counseling.
  • Creates and maintains individualized treatment plans.
  • Participates in leadership meetings, strategic planning, and administrative program meetings and training.

The Addiction Counselor’s secondary responsibilities are as follows:

  • Facilitates the orientation process for all new clients, inclusive of review of program rules, securing signed consent forms, completing all assessments, and facilitating appropriate substance and alcohol screenings.
  • Assists supervisees with identifying professional development goals, and collaboratively monitoring their progress toward identified goals.
  • Facilitates routine Quality Assurance audits of client records to ensure compliance with federal, state, and governing agency requirements.
  • Identifies training needs and makes recommendations to the Clinical Director.
  • Coordinates with the Clinical Director on incoming referrals and assign clients to caseloads.
  • Participates in leadership meetings, strategic planning, and administrative program meetings and training.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $22.00 - $41.00 per hour
