Who We Are:

The Project on Predatory Student Lending is the first legal services practice in the country focused solely on representing postsecondary students who were harmed by predatory practices in higher education and vocational training. Started at Harvard Law School in 2012, the Project became an independent non-profit organization in August 2022. The Project primarily uses impact litigation to further its mission of ending predatory practices in higher education. The Project has prosecuted landmark litigation holding corporations and the government accountable for abusive and discriminatory actions and policies.

What's in it for you:

The Project on Predatory Student Lending's Outreach and Engagement Specialist unites PPSL's litigation and advocacy program with the client community and key external stakeholders.

  • Salary: $55-75k per year, depending on experience
  • Hybrid role: Once per week presence in Boston office required

Essential Functions:

  • Manage and update PPSL's screening, records, and relationships with the client community
    • Identify opportunities and trends that could impact PPSL's litigation and policy initiatives
    • Escalate individual client issues and questions to legal team
    • Respond to client and community outreach
    • Create and implement a variety of community outreach tools
  • Manage PPSL's data
    • Run tailored reports in CRM and other platforms
    • Perform technical troubleshooting and software support
    • Create custom visualization of data trends
    • Work with PPSL's litigation and policy teams to anticipate information for data reporting
  • Manage outreach and events for student borrowers
    • Plan events for PPSL clients (webinars, town halls, etc.)
    • Attend events with PPSL client community
    • Work with PPSL attorneys to draft and send email updates and automated notifications to student borrowers
  • Generate and strategize opportunities to leverage client voices
    • Liaise with the communications team to connect student borrowers to advocacy opportunities through media, policy makers, and other opportunities that may arise
    • Identify client engagement strategies in support of litigation, strategic communications, and policy initiatives
    • Identify, connect, and build relationships with PPSL client community
  • Find and connect student borrowers to PPSL litigation
    • Working PPSL's attorneys, develop outreach to identify, connect, and build relationships with potential plaintiffs
  • Serve as staff liaison to any informal client committees or advisory boards
  • Client communication support (e.g., managing Mail Chimp, client communications and blog posts, social media and website updates)
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School degree required; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Experience in legal support, data management, administrative, and/or client facing roles.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong grasp of Microsoft Excel.
  • Willingness to learn and develop skills that will enhance contributions to the team, including new technologies. Experience with Salesforce and/or CRMs preferred.
  • Exceptional listening skills and a strong ability to convey complex information orally and in writing.
  • Committed to and passionate about the Project's mission and working with serving low-income communities.
  • Enjoy working on multiple different projects and perform well under deadlines.
  • Ability to take a proactive approach to client engagement.
