Position SummaryPresentation High School in San Jose, California is seeking a part-time ASL instructor to join the Modern Language Department in the 2024-2025 school year.
Historically, we have allowed some students to take American Sign Language to fulfill their language requirement, but they have always had to pursue that option off campus. This year, we are offering one section of American Sign Language 1 on-site. In 2024-2025, we will be offering American Sign Language 1 and 2.
We are looking for an experienced, innovative teacher who is eager to build this program with us.
Duties and Specific ResponsibilitiesModel for students the Catholic mission and values of Presentation High SchoolDemonstrate subject matter competency and the ability to communicate that to high school students.Devise a system of classroom order and discipline that contributes to the learning of all students.Create meaningful connections with students through culturally responsive teaching.Utilize provided lesson plans to deliver dynamic and engaging lessons and assignments using Universal Design for Learning and other engaging pedagogical strategies.Model a spirit of innovation, creativity, and intellectual curiosity.Be available to students who need assistance.Exercise professionalism at all times with students, parents, and colleagues.Participate in professional development activities of the subject area, pedagogy, and technology.
Requirements:
