City of Memphis Careers is Hiring an OJI Specialist (Part Time) Near Memphis, TN

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Works under the direction of the Lead OJI Coordinator to coordinate city-wide activities of the On-The-Job Injury Program(OJI) including day-to-day activities in updating files and assisting in contacting the City’s Third-Party Administrator (TPA). Assists in ensuring compliance with the Occupational Safety & Health Act of 1970 (OSHA) and applicable laws and regulations regarding workers’ compensation. Maintains records for settlements to employees ensuring leave time is restored. Coordinates activities in dealing with records and files that is received by the TPA. Submits documentation to the OJI Coordinator regarding denials. Monitors lost time claims and identifies modified duty positions. Sends and maintains OJI claims for the OJI Coordinator to determine if investigation is needed. Assist in facilitating claim review meetings. Ensures the timely processing of OJI claims. Reviews invoices submitted from third party vendors and provides reports to track monthly OJI expenditures. Assists the OJI Coordinator with City’s OJI/HHL Panel of physicians to ensure medical care per utilization guidelines and policies and procedures. Monitors the City’s OJI Pharmacy Program and expenditures. Assists the Retirement Team as needed in coordinating all activities relating to the administrative hearings of contested cases arising from the City’s retirement plans. Provides guidance to employees and OSHA Coordinators regarding OJI forms and OJI medical documents. Works closely with the Retirement Analysts to facilitate Line of Duty and Ordinary Disability cases. Meets regularly to review the status of cases/claims and develops legally sound strategies for a mutually beneficial resolution. Assists in the creation and facilitation of OJI training programs. Reviews records and applications for Disability Pension Applications to make determinations if additional investigation or examinations are necessary.

  1. Performs additional functions (essential or otherwise) which may be assigned.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with staff and management. Requires the ability to operate basic office equipment such as a personal computer and related software.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed in an office environment. May be required to travel to various sites throughout the City.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma and a related field and two (2) years professional experience working with human recourses; or any combination of experience and training which enables one to perform the essential job functions. Experience in insurance claims, worker’s compensation, OJI claims preferred. Specific experience related to OJI administration preferred.
