GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Registered Professional Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing and supervising direct and indirect total nursing care responsibilities to identified age specific groups. Utilizes the nursing process (assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating) in achieving the goals of the nursing department. Adheres to the Corporate Compliance Plan and to all rules and regulations of all applicable local, state, and federal agencies and accrediting bodies. Actively participates in outstanding customer service and accepts responsibility in maintaining relationships that are equally respectful to all.


PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
:

Plans, coordinates, and oversees care for patients. Provides care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center. Makes decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicates appropriate information to other team members. May have additional responsibilities as designated by the manager, which include, but are not limited to, serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits, and projects. Demonstrates through behavior, Core Values of Quality and Service Excellence, Community Wellbeing, High Ethical Standards, Stewardship, and Inclusiveness.

  • Knows and adheres to policies of the Center and demonstrates fiscal responsibility.
  • Follows policies, procedures, goals, and objectives for perioperative nursing care according to accepted standards.
  • Plans, implements, and evaluates pre and post operative nursing care for patients based on individual, specific patient needs, and according to physician’s orders.
  • Maintains and demonstrates current skills and knowledge of intravenous therapy, medication administration and effects, patient assessment, airway maintenance, patient teaching, emotional/social support of patients and families, and other needed clinical competencies.
  • Assess patients at intervals as stated in policies and procedures.
  • Develop an individualized perioperative plan of care.
  • Implement the plan of care using the following interventions:
  • Protect patient from injury caused by chemical, electrical, laser, positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
  • Perform count procedures to protect patient from unintended retained foreign objects.
  • Perform interventions necessary to ensure patient’s procedure is performed on the correct site, side, and level.
  • Manage patient’s specimen(s) in the appropriate manner.
  • Communicate patient’s current status throughout the continuum of care.
  • Administer medication(s) appropriately.
  • Perform interventions to maintain patient's wound and tissue perfusion at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to maintain the status of the patient’s genitourinary, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, endocrine, respiratory, cardiovascular, and neurological systems, and fluid, electrolyte, and acid-base balances at or above baseline levels.
  • Perform interventions to ensure the patient is at or returned to normothermia at the conclusion of the immediate postoperative period.
  • Perform interventions to protect patient from infection.
  • Assess knowledge level of patient or designated support person and provide education regarding the expected psychosocial response, nutritional management, medication management, pain management, wound management, and expected responses to the operative or invasive procedure.
  • Actively involve patient or designated support person in decisions affecting his or her perioperative plan of care and the rehabilitation process.
  • Protect patient’s rights, dignity, and privacy.
  • Provide culturally competent, age-appropriate, ethical care within legal standards of practice.
  • Provide consistent and comparable care regardless of the setting.
  • Evaluate the patient’s progress toward attaining outcomes.
  • Transfer care as appropriate.
  • Delegate tasks as appropriate according to the state Nurse Practice Act and job descriptions.
  • Document nursing care.
  • Collaborate effectively with other disciplines as appropriate.
  • Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects.
  • Participate in the performance appraisal process.
  • Use problem-solving and conflict resolution skills to foster effective work relationships with team members.
  • Maintain required competencies.
  • Attend required meetings and educational sessions.
  • Act as a patient advocate and maintain privacy of all appropriate information.
  • Professional development: Abides by American Nurses Association Scope, Standards and Code of Ethics. Participates in practice changes, process improvement initiatives and completes all required education by the due date. Supports quality standards and initiatives set by the department. Exhibits desire to learn, teach, mentor and advance nursing skills.
  • May perform waived and/or non-waived Point of Care Testing. If performing non-waived Point of Care Testing, as defined in AHCA rule 59A-7.034, must have approved competency and documented proof (copy of either diploma or transcript, at the highest level of academic achievement) at the time of AdventHealth non-waived Point of Care training.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Graduate of a school of nursing


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
  • 1-year perioperative experience
  • Ambulatory surgery experience


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

  • Current valid State of Florida or multi state license as a Registered Nurse
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Advanced life support certification (ACLS)


LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

  • Professional certifications
