TPC River Highlands is a private golf course located in Cromwell, CT, just outside of Hartford. TPC River Highlands’ championship golf course hosts the PGA TOUR’s Travelers Championship, the largest professional sports event in Connecticut. Along with the world renowned golf course, TPC River Highlands opened a brand-new state of the art 40,000 square foot clubhouse in 2019, featuring three event spaces, covered patios, two full kitchens, and an outdoor event lawn, capable of hosting events from 12-person private dining to 500-person events. Tee up your career as a part of our team with the TPC Network! The Merchandise Manager is responsible for managing all Golf Shop merchandise, par inventory levels and related displays. This individual works with the Head Golf Professional and other team members to increase retail sales, design and create Golf Shop displays that position product in the best location to stimulate sales. QUALIFICATIONS High school education or equivalent education Thorough knowledge of general business practices, retail sales practices and procedures as would be acquired through at least three years of similar experience Previous merchandise experience required RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES Oversee merchandise operation including purchasing, inventory and management of staff Greet and welcome members and guests in a warm, professional and courteous manner. Answer questions and provide assistance and information as needed Professionally communicate information, sell merchandise, and become fully knowledgeable in all products and sales techniques. Anticipate the needs of members and guests and offer appropriate merchandise alternatives Print and distribute monthly reports and/or daily change reports to the Head Golf Professional. Coordinate any changes with the National Merchandising Department Ensure all records on all Return to Vendors (RTVs) are accurate and appropriate return authorization (RA’s) and credits from vendors for merchandise returns are obtained Assist with conducting physical inventories. In coordination with Stockroom Manager and Merchandise Coordinator, determine reason for variances, explain variances to Head Golf Professional and make recommend changes to decrease variances Working with the Head Golf Professional, interview, hire and train all golf shop floor sales staff. Assist with annual and semi-annual employee performance reviews and corrective actions Plan for and schedule manpower to include staff and Golf Shop sales floor staff. Establish staffing needs and maintain accountability for performance of employees In coordination with Stock Room Manager, ensure all merchandise stored in the stock room is accurately coded as temporary, permanent or basic fill use. Direct the accurate distribution and control of the daily golf shop fill ins Continually check par levels of all Stock Room merchandise. Rotate seasonal merchandise, contact vendors for fill in orders for fashion deliveries and basics as needed Ensure Golf Shop displays are kept at par stock inventory levels at all times and that the appearance meets or exceeds PGA TOUR Golf Course Properties, Inc. standards Assist with completing required information and documents for Golf World Business Top 100 application; present to Head Golf Professional for final approval and submission In coordination with Merchandise Coordinator, direct all golf-related merchandise activities relative to the annual PGA TOUR related events held during tournaments, including product placement, pricing, fill ins and mark downs Present recommendations to the Head Golf Professional for the merchandise operations budget Purchase display props and seasonal props for Golf Shop merchandising and ensure expenses are within budget Ensure the Golf Shop and Stock Room are routinely cleaned and well organized. Areas include the Golf Shop, storage areas, and merchandise displays In coordination with Stock Room Manager and Merchandise Coordinator, maintain Stock Room security by monitoring incoming and outgoing staff and shipments Manage subordinate employee(s) on sales floor. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Club's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems Special projects or other duties as assigned PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
