Gillette Children's is Hiring a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DE&I) Coordinator Near Saint Paul, MN

This role is designed to support the development and implementation of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) strategies and initiatives aligned with Gillette’s strategic plans and organizational priorities by bringing a deep understanding of DEI principles, including intersectionality and ableism. The DEI Coordinator will play a crucial role in fostering an inclusive culture that values diversity and promotes equity across all levels of our organization, including staff, students, volunteers, patients, and their families.

This part-time role offers 20 hours per week, with a flexible schedule adhering to standard business hours, Monday through Friday (1-2 weekend days per year). While predominantly remote, some on-site presence in our St. Paul, MN locations is expected (minimum 1 day per month), requiring flexibility from the selected candidate. Relocation to the area is expected for candidates residing beyond reasonable driving distance upon hire. 

The DEI coordinator will possess strong project coordination and analytical skills, focusing on the orchestration of DEI programs and interventions, advising on their implementation, and maintaining awareness of ongoing initiatives throughout Gillette. The DEI Coordinator is a results-oriented, creative, and strategic thinker who can work with a variety of people. This role has a mix of routine and non-routine tasks, and requires sound judgment, tact, and discretion. Possessing strong critical thinking, analytical abilities, and project coordination skills is essential. A broad-minded approach and prior experience with similar responsibilities are also crucial.

Compensation & Benefits 

The hourly wage for this opportunity is $30.35/hour to $45.53/hour, with a median wage of $37.94/hour. Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience, education, certification & licensure, and internal equity. Hourly pay is just one part of the compensation package for employees. Primary Job Responsibilities 

  • DEI Initiative Development and Implementation Support:
    • Support Employee Resource Groups with their meetings, events, and initiatives by providing administrative support and coordination of activities.
    • Aid in the formation of new ERGs and affinity groups and support the development and implementation of other opportunities for connection and belonging.
    • Support the DEI Advisory Council. This may include developing meeting materials, sending out communication, and facilitating meeting agendas.
    • Advise on clinical and non-clinical initiatives from a DEI perspective, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
  • Project Management
    • Lead and/or coordinate DEI projects from inception to completion, including setting timelines, coordinating with multiple stakeholders, managing resources, and ensuring projects align with organizational goals.
    • Plan, promote, and coordinate DEI events. This may include internal and community events.
    • Oversee project logistics, information management, and delivery of project outcomes.
  • Data Analysis and Reporting
    • Collect, analyze, and report data on DEI metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives and identify areas for improvement.
    • Manage submissions to external benchmarks, indexes, and facilitating information exchange.
    • Update and monitor the organization’s annual DEI plan.
    • Develop reports, presentation materials, articles, and other communications.
  • Training and Education
    • Coordinate DEI training sessions for staff, students, and volunteers to enhance awareness and understanding of DEI principles.
    • Provide resources to aid individuals and leaders in DEI efforts.
  • Stakeholder Engagement
    • Serve as a coordinator and liaison between Gillette Children’s and diverse communities.
    • Coordinate meetings and events, including with internal and external partners and vendors and key stakeholders.
    • Engage with staff, patients, patient families, and external partners to gather feedback and insights that inform DEI efforts.
    • Promote an environment where all voices are heard.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in relevant field or discipline (e.g., equity studies, social sciences, disability studies, etc.), or equivalent combination of education and employment experience.
  • Experience within or outside health care settings partnering with diverse, multi-racial communities.
  • Minimum of 5 years of recent work experience that includes DEI project/process management, stakeholder engagement, or team support for implementation of multiple projects and initiatives.
  • Experience collecting, interpreting, and using data as part of processes and decision making.
  • Experience in diversity, equity, and inclusion related projects and initiatives.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of DEI best practices, laws, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of project management principles.
  • Ability to synthesize information addressing complex issues relating to organizational initiatives.
  • Excellent critical and analytical skills and ability to draw conclusions and prepare accurate reports.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and relationship management skills to support the development and implementation of key partnerships.
  • Superior communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with a diverse range of individuals and groups.

Preferred

  • Experience within a health care setting.
  • Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, or other non-English languages commonly found in the community.
  • Completion of a Diversity and Inclusion certificate program from a university or other recognized institution, or other credential such as an Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) Qualified Administrator license.
