General Summary
This position is being hired at a part-time, seasonal basis - through the end of winter and into spring. The lawn and garden seasonal employee is staffed from MARCH through mid-JULY. However, efficient and motivated seasonal hires may have an opportunity to stay employed with Nyberg's at the end of the season, at the manager's discretion. This position will assist in the receiving, stocking, pricing of all merchandise and help maintain a clean and orderly merchandise presentation and overall store and greenhouse cleanliness.
REQUIREMENTS:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Customer Service:
•Project a positive representation.
•Greet customers entering and throughout the store and greenhouse. Thank customers by name, when possible, when they are leaving the store.
•Project a friendly, outgoing demeanor; work well with customers as well as fellow associates.
•Clear customer checkout lines quickly and efficiently.
•Answer and monitor all calls and pages promptly, courteously and effectively.
•Communicate any problem or issue that requires management assistance.
•Continually build product knowledge base and possess the ability to assist customers with store layout and product location.
•Assist in pricing, stocking, marking and bagging of merchandise.
Register Operations
•Follow all cash register transaction procedures.
•Responsible for balancing of register drawer.
•Adhere to any Store Support Center program or promotion that may require implementation at the cash registers.
•Participate in store and cashier meetings.
Store Operations:
•Assist in creating a positive, professional and safe work environment.
•Assist with receiving, checking in and stocking of merchandise throughout the store.
•Assist with maintaining back stock levels.
•Assist with daily maintenance, orderliness and cleanliness of the sales floor, stock room and
outdoor merchandise area.
•Assist with providing a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and ad merchandise.
•Assist with merchandise resets through the store.
•Provide assistance to Department Specialists, i.e. price changes, special orders.
•Ensure signage is current throughout the store.
•Operate forklift with proper training.
•Communicate any Store Support Center issue to Store Leader for follow up.
•Communicate any merchandising, cost control or sales idea to the Store Leader.
•Participate in store meetings.
•Be professional in appearance and actions.
•Perform all other duties as assigned.
Appearance and Upkeep
•Keep the department and/or greenhouse, including checkout areas and entrance doors neat and clean at all times. Face and clean as needed.
•Water plants & flowers as needed.
•Assist with keeping impulse sections stocked and faced, rotate fresh merchandise in as seasons change.
•Ensure forms and supplies are stocked at all times.
•Inform management when merchandise returns need to be put away.
•Perform all other duties as assigned.
Experience
Formal retail experience preferred. Knowledge of lawn & garden tools and equipment highly preferred.
Physical Demands
Standing, walking, lifting (up to 40lbs) and climbing.
