Brief Job Summary
This position is responsible for operating sanitation equipment in support of the county’s solid waste management operations.
Job Responsibilities
o Operates a truck to transport boxes from convenience sites to landfill. o Transports recyclables to assigned location. o Transports cardboard for baling. o Assists in the operation of garbage compactor at convenience sites. o Loads collected waste water from holding pond to truck; transports to waste treatment plant for processing. o Operates landfill scales. o Assists in the mulching of brush. o Cleans, washes, fuels, services and makes minor repairs to vehicles and equipment. o Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
o Ability to read, write, and perform mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent. o Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one or two years. o Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.

o Knowledge of the operation of assigned equipment. o Skill in operating a roll-off truck and other sanitation equipment. o Skill in the basic maintenance of vehicles and equipment. o Skill in defensive driving techniques. o Skill in using various hand tools. o Skill in oral and written communication.
Work Environment/Physical Requirements
The work is typically performed while sitting, standing, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and heavy objects, climbs ladders, and uses equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity.
