Job Title: Elementary After School- Part-time Reading Specialist
Reports To: Elementary Program Manager
Classification: Part-time
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Summary/Objective:
The part time Reading Specialist’s goal is to facilitate individual and small group learning sessions for struggling readers in the K-5th after-school program, focusing on providing additional support to help students meet grade level ELA standards. Under the leadership and guidance of the Chief Program Officer and the K-5th Program Manager, the Reading Specialist will be responsible for the planning, implementing, and evaluating of reading interventions designed for select students in the after-school program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Planning
· Review student data to determine a case load of students who will receive services
· Create a schedule for individual/group intervention sessions
· Prepare lesson plans and materials for intervention sessions based on research-based, Science of Reading practices
· Create formative assessments to track student progress
· Create method for collecting progress notes
Implementing
· Meet with individuals and/or small groups to provide reading interventions for identified students.
· Maximize program time to meet the needs of the identified case load
· Communicate with classroom teachers about student progress and/or ways to support students when they participate in the larger group
· Collect data for progress notes
· Set up/Clean up room and supplies before and after program
· Build rapport with students and staff to build safe spaces to explore reading
Evaluating
· Use formative evaluation to track the progress of interventions
· Review student data to evaluate the interventions
· Communicate progress notes with program manager and teachers
· Adapt future instructional practices based on observations and data
Qualifications:
Education:
· Bachelor’s degree in primary or elementary education is required
· Valid teaching certification is required
· Reading endorsement is preferred
· ESOL endorsement is preferred
Experience:
· At least 2 years of K-5th teaching experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Demonstrated understanding of the K-5 Florida ELA standards
· Demonstrated best practices in the Science of Reading instruction
· Demonstrated ability to plan appropriate interventions
· Demonstrated ability to assess student progress and create instruction to support student needs
· Collaborative spirit to work with classroom teachers
· Strong communication skills- both written and verbal

Work Environment: Position requires working in numerous locations which include varied temperature, noise level, and other factors that may affect a person’s working conditions while performing the job.
Position Type and Expected Working Hours: Part-time (part time is defined as someone who is working less than 30 hours week). Anticipated working hours for the school year are approximately 2:00 PM-6:00 PM Monday-Thursday (approx. 16 hours/week). Summer camp hours may also be available.
Physical Demands: Bending, sitting, and standing for long periods of time. May require lifting objects weighing up to 20 lbs. as needed.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications: Background check, fingerprinting required, and DCF training required after first 90 days.
