Pueblo Community Health Center is Hiring a Health Information Management Specialist Near Pueblo, CO

Health Information Management Specialist: Starting Pay Range: $15.47 - $17.29 an hour

  • Initiate, maintain, process, distribute and file electronic and paper patient health records.

Supervision Exercised:

  • None

Education/Experience/License/Certification:

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • Experience in filing of patient records in medical setting preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance as required by law. 

Required Travel:

  • Occasional travel may be required including day-to-day local travel.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

    1. Basic working knowledge of computer, scanners, copy machine, and keyboarding skills.
    2. Essential to have ability to understand verbal information/instruction, to exchange verbal information with others, ability to present information verbally.
    3. Essential to have ability to read and understand written materials and ability to compose information/instruction in written form.
    4. Essential to have ability to memorize.
    5. Essential to have analytical and problem-solving skills.
    6. Essential to have ability to utilize alphabetical and numerical filing system.
    7. Helpful to have mathematical reasoning.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
    1. Ensure the function and activities of this department to embrace the philosophy, mission, values and Communicate with Heart service model supported by the Board of Directors of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.
    2. Adhere to the guidelines and procedures of Pueblo Community Health Center, Inc.
    3. Electronically file all patient information into the NextGen Image Control System (ICS) and Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
    4. Scan and file all documents received thru mail, electronic format, or other hard copy patient reports/results and information into ICS/EMR.
    5. File faxed patient reports/results and information into the ICS/EMR. Other documents received thru the fax that are not patient related will be forwarded via e-mail to the person the documentation was intended for.
    6. Conduct audit systems daily to ensure documents are filed correctly in correct categories/with the correct patients in ICS/EMR.
    7. Report and follow-up on all computer problems within ICS/EMR with the Operations Manager immediately.
    8. Assist Operations Manager in preparing/compiling data/charts for required department, billing and quality chart audits.
    9. Maintain patient confidentiality.
    10. Be a team member, participate in ongoing evaluations of systems, and effectively communicate with all department members.
    11. Attend mandatory department meetings and in-service trainings.
    12. Adhere to PCHC’s HIPAA policies and procedures.
    13. Must be available to provide coverage for night clinic when needed.
    14. Deliver briefcases, outgoing and inter office mail and supplies to PCHC facilities as directed. 
    15. Assist patients with patient portal needs.
    16. Coordinate and prepare year purge with Manager and Lead. 
    17. Perform other related duties as assigned.

    4. The employee occasionally operates computers and other office productivity equipment.
    5. The employee occasionally remains in a stationary position while performing routine office tasks.
    6. The employee frequently moves about the office; and positions self while performing routine office duties such as accessing files and operating equipment.
    7. The employee frequently moves or positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds while performing routine office duties such as opening file drawers, moving patient files, etc.
