Forrest Health is Hiring a CENTRAL STERILE TECHNICIAN Near Hattiesburg, MS

Job Summary:

The Central Sterile Technician performs under the direct supervision of the Central Sterile Manager. Moderate clerical skills will be utilized on a daily basis. Additionally, the tech is responsible for cleaning, disinfecting, and sterilizing all instruments and equipment that comes through the Central Sterile department. Based on hospital demands the tech may be required to float to other areas of Surgical Services or to flex off to relieve the hospital of staffing strains. The technician performs specific functions in processing, sterilizing, and issuing supplies that are used in the patient’s care by surgery, maternity services, outpatient facility, and other departments. She/he is supervised by the Central Sterile Processing Manager who reports directly to the Director of Surgical Services.

Performance expectations will be covered in the orientation phase.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients, physicians, and co-workers in a manner consistent with a customer service focus and application of positive language principles.
  • Provides for exceptional patient and coworker experiences by following our standards of practice of always using positive language.
  • Demonstrates independence and exercises sound judgment in interactions with cohorts, vendors, physicians and the interprofessional care team.
  • Promotes a positive work environment with the Central Sterile Team.
  • Collaborates with all members of the Central Sterile Team by actively communicating and reporting pertinent information in a comprehensive manner.
  • Exhibits open and professional communication.
  • Role models fair and consistent leadership skills for effective team dynamics.
  • Performs all the duties of required of an Central Sterile Team member.
  • Must work in all areas of Central Sterile Processing, i.e.; decontamination, pack and prep, wrapping, sterilization, replacing of sets to BIN locations.
  • Following orientation competently utilizes all methods of sterilization and record keeping available in Central Sterile.
  • Maintains all HealthStream assignment prior to deadlines
  • Participates in all competencies planned for the job role prior to deadline. Demonstrates knowledge and skills to appropriately communicate and interact with the patients, families, and visitors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs.
  • Demonstrates ability to function in decontamination using manual, ultrasonic, cart washer, and washer decontamination equipment
  • Demonstrates ability to place recyclable items in collection bins properly
  • Demonstrates ability to use microsystem to record work tasks
  • Demonstrates ability to assemble simple to complex sets within expected time frame
  • Demonstrates ability to query microsystem or One Source when question arises
  • Demonstrates ability to print labels appropriately from Microsystems
  • Demonstrates ability to choose wrappers and wrap sets manually
  • Demonstrates ability to appropriately assemble container systems for sets
  • Demonstrates ability to use all methods of sterilization found in Central Sterile, i.e.; steam sterilizers, and V-Pro MAX
  • Demonstrates ability to scan and record all loads correctly
  • Demonstrates knowledge of set cooling time
  • Stores sets to BIN locations accurately
  • Dispenses sets to ancillary departments accurately
  • Demonstrates ability to restock OR replacement rack
  • Demonstrates ability to peel-pack items correctly
  • Adhere to the OR Attire and Attendance Policy
  • Sets a positive example to all staff in daily activities.
  • Behaviors and interactions demonstrate a positive attitude, personal initiative and motivation to achieve the goals of the department.
  • Champions the development and growth of safety culture.
  • Demonstrates organizational, interpersonal, and time management skills.
  • Participates in all competencies planned for the job role prior to deadlines.
  • Complies with the Surgical Services / Central Sterile policy.
  • Follows the policies in the Employee Handbook.
  • The spreading of rumors and gossip creates unnecessary turmoil, weakens working relationships, and is contrary to the spirit of the hospital and is prohibited.
  • Uses “We Care” philosophy in daily communication.
  • Works assigned shift and responds when called upon for additional or emergency services.
  • Required appropriate use of department’s communication app.

Qualifications:

Education/Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
