Social Worker / Counselor- Residential (Askia recovery home)

Our Behavioral Health Services programs provide residential and outpatient treatment for those struggling with mental illness, developmental disabilities, or substance use disorders. For many individuals, our programs literally save lives.

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective:

Askia House is dual diagnosis recovery homes on our campus that provides a longer-term residential program. These residents are in early recovery and in need of residential substance use services. The program’s goal is to help residents address their unique recovery needs while working toward becoming more independent and successfully returning to their communities. Program staff focus on partnering with individuals to develop a working model for life while providing a safe and supportive environment. The program uses evidence-based and evidence- informed practices that include trauma informed care, motivational interviewing and harm reduction.

Counselor / Social Worker

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct care to residents (including individual and group counseling) to all residents in a team approach with other clinical staff members.
  • Works with assigned caseload with flexibility to assist in covering additional cases, depending on program needs.
  • Conducts admissions, aftercare planning and discharges in collaboration with the program director and clinical supervisor.
  • Completes assessments, aftercare plans, discharge plans, crisis/safety plans, and relapse prevention plans.
  • Provides crisis intervention and de-escalation.
  • Provides case management to all residents assigned to ensure they are linked with all necessary resources, supports and services.
  • Conducts coordination of care with resident’s providers.
  • Completes all required documentation in a timely and accurate way. Completes daily progress notes, and individual and group counseling notes for any resident to whom services are provided.
  • Maintains compliance with Federal Regulations, 42CFR Part 2, Confidentiality of Alcohol Abuse Policy and HIPAA Regulations.
  • Attends all meetings and trainings as determined by the Program Director and Clinical Supervisor.
  • Supervise student interns as assigned.
  • Facilitate trainings as assigned, and recovery activities for residents.
  • Attend clinical review meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Competencies

  • Possesses excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Has demonstrated knowledge of trauma informed care and de-escalation techniques, and of treatment modalities including ATS and MATx.
  • Able to maintain therapeutic and physical boundaries by setting limits and enforcing rules in a respectful manner. Maintains strong work ethic.

Work Environment

This position operates in a clinical setting.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a part-time role with weekend hours.

Required Education and Experience

  • Masters Degree in Mental Health Counseling or Social Work (or equivalent)
  • LMHC or LICSW preferred
  • At least one year of experience working in substance use therapy program preferred.
