Job Title: Part Time Public Safety Officer
Department: Ball Park Operations
Reports To: Public Safety Manager
FLSA: Part Time – Hourly, Non-Exempt
Job Description:
Public Safety Officers are primarily responsible for providing security and safety services to the employees, guests, partners, contractors, and vendors of Great American Ballpark along with other Ballclub controlled facilities including but not limited to the Goodyear Training site and Youth Academy.
Part Time Public Safety Officer (PTPSO) required duties and responsibilities:
  • Professionally assist and screen visitors, employees, vendors, contractors, and partners in an efficient manner for admittance to the ballpark. This includes staffing metal detection devices and inspection of bags and vehicles.
  • Monitor the security and fire detection systems for Great American Ball Park and other Ballclub facilities.
  • Prevent unapproved or unlawful entry; control entrances, the movement of people and vehicles, parking, operate gates and monitor remote entrances using closed circuit television.
  • Take the necessary actions to remove unauthorized or disorderly persons that may need to be escorted off property.
  • Conduct patrols of Great American Ballpark and other Cincinnati facilities on foot and/or in a vehicle; checking for unsafe conditions, hazards, security issues, mechanical problems, and
  • unauthorized persons.
  • Conduct investigations following incidents that include but not limited to criminal/suspicious activity, accidents, hazards, and injures,
  • Erect and remove barriers and signage that might be necessary to prohibit vehicular and/or pedestrian traffic.
  • Respond to and take the appropriate action during incidents that include illegal/suspicious activity, fire, medical needs, natural disasters (i.e. flooding), mechanical equipment issues, hazardous materials spills, inclement weather, and other incidents or conditions that may arise following established procedures.
  • Be vigilant for suspicious or hazardous situations, take the appropriate action that includes reporting them to supervision or public safety agencies. 
  • May be required to appear and testify in court for any criminal or civil investigations related to duties as a Public Safety Officer.
  • Prepare and/or inspect logs or reports as required.
  • Immediately report any employee safety (OHSA) violations to the Director of Public Safety & Security.
  • It is essential that Public Safety Officers conduct their responsibilities professionally and, in a customer, friendly manner.
  • Must adhere to high standards regarding confidential information and investigations.
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a team environment, focusing on collaboration, communication, and working to achieve the goals of the department.
  • Supporting a healthy department morale, by being positive and assisting in overcoming challenges.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrated ability to professionally interact and with high profile individuals. 
  • Good administrative skills and written communication skills. 
  • Carry out all tasks and responsibilities within the rules, regulations, and policies of Major League Baseball, the Cincinnati Reds, and the Public Safety Department.
  • Officer will need to become and remain certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, Fire Extinguisher use, Trained Crowd Manager, Special Events (IS15) NIMS (IS700), Workplace Security (IS906), Active Shooter (IS907), Surveillance Awareness (IS914), and de-escalation tactics.
  • Although the Public Safety Department operates under a fixed 10 hour working shift model for full-time staff, part-time employees must be flexible to work different shifts since they will be primarily working during staff shortages, emergencies, or other conditions which requires the need to have additional personnel on-duty. 
Experience, Education and Licensure:
  • Preferred: Background in security
  • Preferred: Certification/Licensure in emergency medical services (CPR, AED, First Aid, Medic, Paramedic) 
  • Preferred: College education, but high school graduation, or equivalent is required. 
  • Must computer knowledgeable, or the ability to become knowledgeable to operate software that relates to report writing, log entry, surveillance equipment, and monitoring alarms. 
  • Demonstrated ability to function in a team environment, focusing on collaboration, communication, and working to achieve the goals of the department.
  • A willingness to support a healthy department morale, by being positive and assisting in overcoming challenges.
  • Good administrative skills and written communication skills
  • Willingness and ability to become and remain certified in CPR/First Aid/AED, Fire Extinguisher use, Trained Crowd Manager, Special Events (IS15) NIMS (IS700), Workplace Security (IS906), Active Shooter (IS907), Surveillance Awareness (IS914), de-escalation tactics, along with other require trainings and put the taught methods into use.
Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able and willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Pre-employment background check and psychological examination

Work Environment:
Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office work environment however, there will be times and instances when the employee may be exposed and required to work in an external environment which includes adverse weather conditions.
