Part-time High School Varsity Boys Head Soccer Coach

The Guadalupe Centers Charter Schools serves 1600 students from PreK-12 and is a free, open-enrollment public charter school. Over 92% of our students are Latinx. Our school system consists of Guadalupe Centers High School, Guadalupe Centers Middle School, and Guadalupe Centers Elementary School. Our system grew out of Guadalupe Centers’ educational programming. Guadalupe Centers is the longest continuously operating agency serving the Latinx community in the US since 1919. Our roots in our community run deep.

Summary: 

The Soccer Coach will coordinate, instruct, motivate, and organize the High School Soccer Team. This position is primarily located at Guadalupe Center’s High School and its athletic fields. This position is appointed annually for the term of the soccer season.

Reports To: Athletic Director, Building Administration

Duties/Responsibilities: 

  • Comprehensive knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of the sport assigned to the coach.
  • Maintain current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
  • Complete all training to comply with MSHSAA requirements.
  • Provide emergency first aid.
  • Maintain a conducive and safe environment.
  • Maintain, issue, and provide accurate inventory of school equipment.
  • To model the skills of the sport.
  • Develop positive relations with students and parents. This includes proper dress, language, demeanor, and student/teacher relations.
  • Place a team on the field of competition and substitute players appropriately as part of a well-organized game plan.
  • To screen student-athletes for membership on a team. Where cuts are required because of size limitations, proper judgment must be present to assess skills, aptitude, interest, and future ability and temperament.
  • Provide eligibility lists, rosters, and other paperwork as required by the administration.
  • To be active in building participation, conditioning, and training through camps and individual contacts.
  • Supervise student-athletes before and after sporting events and practices.
  • Ensure transportation has been scheduled with the Athletic Director for games and practices.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Excellent leadership and motivational skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of soccer.
  • Ability to work with student-athletes.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

  • A Four-Year College Degree OR Serving as an Approved Assistant Coach (3.1.4.b) (non-Hardship Coach) for a minimum of TWO school years.
  • A Professional Teacher’s Certificate OR NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching Course passed before coaching. This course is not sport-specific. This is a one-time requirement.
  • Successful completion of a Sports First Aid course before coaching and renewed every two years.
  • Successful completion of CPR/AED training before coaching and renewed every two years.
  • Successful completion of a Concussion in Sports Course, and review of current concussion information yearly.
  • Successful completion of the MSHSAA Sport-Specific Online Rules Review each season.
  • Minimum of 3 years of coaching experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to traverse various athletic grounds and facilities.
  • Prolonged periods of standing or walking. 
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.
