City of Cincinnati is Hiring a COLLEGE CO-OP MSD/OOD (LEGAL TEAM) Near Ohio, OH

The Metropolitan Sewer District posted a number of College Co-Op Job Postings for the Summer Semester beginning May 2024. Please read through all Job Postings and apply for the position(s) you would like to be evaluated for and/or interviewed for as a Co-Op student.

The Priority Deadline for applications is May 31, 2024. Applications will be forwarded to Divisions within the Metropolitan Sewer District for review prior to the close of this posting. Interns/Co-ops/Externs for the City of Cincinnati may be performing duties in any potential field within the City's structure. These fields may include office-level work/assignments, fieldwork, and/or civic services. The nature of the work will be based on areas of interest, degree programs, or organizational needs. Candidates should have the ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

MSD DIVISION OF OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR - LEGAL TEAM
 
Mission: To establish a partnership with colleges and universities, exposing as many students as possible to employment opportunities in the Wastewater Industry and help them become experienced professionals in the next generation workforce.
Purpose:

To develop practical experience, under the supervision of a licensed attorney, in resolving environmental and land use issues related to the management and operation of a county sewer district. The Co-op program also serves as a recruitment tool to assist the Office of the Director in potentially hiring full-time personnel.

Overview: The Co-op student will be assigned to the MSD Legal Team, under the supervision of Neal Frink and Joseph Neff. The co-op will assist Mr. Frink and Mr. Neff with research and drafting legal memoranda and documents related to environmental and land use matters on current MSD projects/initiatives.
Expectations: The Legal Team will provide appropriately scoped tasks for the co-op to assist on current MSD projects. The co-op will assist the Legal Team by completing legal research, drafting legal memoranda/documents, issues spotting and problems solving, and participating in meetings with other agencies (e.g., Port Authority and Millcreek Valley Conservancy District).

  • Logistics: 

Student’s work station would preferably be located in the MSD Administration Building, 2nd floor (as long as there is room).

  • Training:
The student must be trained on city policies, rules, regulations. Student will be trained to use appropriate software to conduct his/her job responsibilities
  • Orientation (weeks 1-2) 
  • Training in appropriate software (weeks 1-4)
  • Completion of tasks (as assigned)
  • Monthly status reports 
  • Completion of project/report out (final week)
Learning Education Requirements:
  • Preference for study toward a juris doctorate degree with relevant coursework on administrative law and environmental law.

 In order to qualify for the Intern/Co-op/Extern Program, a student must:
  • Be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, or a non-citizen with proof of eligibility to work in the United States
  • Individuals under eighteen will require a work permit
  • Be enrolled in an accredited institution
  • Submit a City job application for employment
  • Must pass a drug screen and background check
