Job Summary/Basic Functions
About the Department:
The Online Coordinator/Satellite Liaison at Virginia State University's College of Agriculture, holding a 12-month administrative-faculty appointment, is responsible for overseeing the development, course (shell) development, implementation, and fostering of a professional rapport with faculty, staff, and students. This position will proactively address and advise student needs and facilitate the execution of the department’s enhanced online courses and programs. Working in collaboration with the Office of Distance Education, the incumbent will advocate for enhanced instructional and technological assistance to support the needs of the departmental faculty, staff, and Chairperson.
The primary responsibility of this role will require the incumbent to occasionally travel overnight and remotely be accessible to faculty and students to provide technical and immediate instructional support. This role will be required to maintain consistent office hours on-campus, a minimum of 3 days per week. The Online Coordinator/ Satellite Liaison provides administrative-managerial support to the Department Chairperson as needed.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in instructional design, working with adult learners from diverse backgrounds, student mentorship, curriculum assessment, online program engagement, and academic advising. Administrative faculty hold the required educational credentials to engage in undergraduate-level instruction, as assigned by the Dean/designee.
Faculty rank and eligibility will be reviewed and determined in accordance with the guidelines outlined in the VSU Faculty Handbook.
Minimum Qualifications
- A Master’s or terminal degree from a regionally accredited university in education, instructional technology, adult education, or a closely related field.
- Hospitality industry experience (example: Hotel Operations, Guest Services, Event Coordination, etc.)
- Demonstrated record of undergraduate-level teaching, course development, and academic advising.
- Prior experience leading and integrating cross-functional and interdisciplinary teams.
- Superior skills in course development, evaluation, and impact assessment.
- Proficient in cross-functional collaboration and project management support.
- Experience in utilizing Learning Management Systems (LMS) for course development.
- Demonstrated independence and superior organizational skills.
- Demonstrated experience identifying and applying assessment tools and/or methods to determine successful learning outcomes.
- Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Considerations:
- Ph.D. in Instructional/Educational Technology, Online/Adult Education, or closely related field.
- Experience working with diverse populations and underserved audiences.
- Significant experience in corporate, hospitality/tourism management.
