Description

As a Risk Director, you will play a crucial role in shaping our risk management strategies and ensuring compliance with laws and regulations for products within your purview. As the Director of Risk, you will represent the First Line of Defense and support the business development and execution of policies and procedures that mitigate various types of risk at The First Bank. You will promote a culture of risk and compliance awareness throughout the bank by supporting the development of training and education on risk policies, practices, and industry guidelines. You will work with divisional leaders to assess the risk of key initiatives and program activities to help solve complex risk issues, identification of risk and controls associated to key business processes, process mapping documentation and projects. The colleague’s deep understanding of Consumer products and risk governance frameworks, and emerging trends will be instrumental in safeguarding reputation as a trusted financial institution. 

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop, mentor, and lead a team of risk professionals
  • Partner with first and second line stakeholders to drive consistency in issues management reporting; and trending analysis to identify themes and engage stakeholders to proactively address opportunities
  • Support risk management in the identification, and mitigation of material risks in the organization. Collaborate with various business leaders to address specific risk issues, assess solutions or mitigation activities, and develop remediation plans. 
  • Design, implement, and/or influence internal governance processes. Manage governance throughout Consumer Lending and Operations to ensure adherence to policies and procedures. 
  • Provide valuable insight and help senior management understand and manage risk. 
  • Oversee the review of current policies and procedures to identify process gaps and opportunities for improvement. 
  • Promote a culture of risk awareness and accountability through training, education, and risk management consultative support.
  • Support risk management with the risk identification, tracking and remediation for all project work within specified product.
  • Knowledge of business area processes and/or products and operations; regulatory requirements; process mapping of key business processes and identify risks/requirements and associated controls.
  • Executes reporting including operational risk events, key risk indicators, and business reviews in accordance with company policies and standards.
  • Performs walk-throughs and provides consultation on existing and new processes and, where appropriate, facilitates documentation thereof, including the identification of business risks and controls. Ensures that controls are in place to mitigate legal, regulatory, and other applicable business risks. Where control gaps exist, provides consultation on the design of controls and monitors until execution

Qualifications


Education/Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree OR at least 10 years working experience in the financial services industry with a focus on risk management. Master’s degree preferred.
  • CERP or similar certification is preferred.
  • Candidates who do not possess one of the certifications listed under education must be eligible and willing to obtain certification within 18 months of hire.

Work Experience:

  • 8 years of experience in a Director Risk Manager role/prior experience implementing and supporting enterprise-wide risk programs at a large institution.
  • Visionary mindset with the ability to anticipate industry shifts and their impact on risk exposure.
  • Proven relationship management skills, strong track record of ability to build trust and credibility through communication, actions, and presence. 
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. 
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of Risk and Control Management
  • Ability to build relationships across all levels and with the ability to collaborate effectively, take the initiative and work as part of the team.
  • Proficient use of Microsoft suite of products and tools.

Physical Demands:

Sitting for long periods of time, pulling and lifting files and the ability to lift up to 10 pounds.
