LensAR is Hiring a Remote Ophthalmic Laser Assistant

*LENSAR currently has one opportunity available for an Ophthalmic Laser Assistant position open to candidates in Northern Virginia and surrounding areas.*
POSITION SUMMARY
The Ophthalmic Laser Assistant's primary responsibility is to operate the LENSAR Laser System, which utilizes laser technology for cataract surgeries. This position requires strong communication skills to work with various physicians, clinicians, technicians and staff members. The Ophthalmic Laser Assistant must also possess strong technical skills for operating the software and equipment of a state-of-the-art medical device. The position is based in a clinical setting within a surgery center. Travel may be required for training at the home office.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Operate LENSAR Laser System for various physicians Monday through Friday at surgery center (fixed location).
  • Review patient procedure requirements with surgeons and staff prior to case.
  • Provide ongoing clinical support in person, via phone or remote technology to established surgery center to ensure proper system utilization and outcome optimization (as defined by the Manager), training updates and customer retention.
  • Conduct medical equipment inventory and place orders as needed to ensure adequate supply of items for surgery.
  • Provide regular communication in person, via phone or remote technology to field counterparts (Sales, Business Development and Field Service) as well as the Clinical App Management team.
  • Appropriate management of expenses incurred in the field support of customers in accordance with our Travel and Expense policy.
  • Responsible for understanding and satisfying the requirements for obtaining access to a client site (hospital, healthcare system, etc.). These specific regulations as determined by the facility may include, but are not limited to, background screenings, drug test screenings, etc.
  • Responsible for topographer training's when applicable and ongoing support to ensure proficiency and use of device as well as assist in troubleshooting if needed.
  • Responsible for accurately completing paperwork along with online data entry for surgeon and laser operator training's and certification.
KNOWLEDGE / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / EDUCATION

Required:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience in delivering training to medical and support staff.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and customer relations skills.
  • Strong time management and computer skills.
  • Ability to work independently and to be self-motivated.
  • Strong organizational and problem solving skills as well as high attention to detail.
  • Understanding of human eye anatomy, corneal topography and keratometry including optics and refraction.
Preferred:
  • COA, COT, or CCOA certification.
  • Bachelor’s degree in life sciences and/or experience in paramedical or working with the anterior segment of the eye.
  • Three years of clinical applications experience or work experience with cataract surgery in an operating theatre.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements necessary for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Ophthalmic Laser Assistant's job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with physicians, management and internal/external customers. The employee must be able to stand on average between four to five hours at a time during surgery. There may be opportunities for brief sit-down breaks. The employee must lift, move, and control physical inventory, office supplies, or travel equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
While performing the duties of the Ophthalmic Laser Assistant, the employee will work in a surgical center setting. The employee works near and around moving mechanical parts, and is exposed to laser radiation. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
