Analytical Services and Materials, Inc. (AS&M) is looking for a full-time Airborne Scientist Scrum Master to work at the Nasa Langley Research Center (LaRC) under the Research, Science, and Engineering Services (RSES) contract.

Overview

As part of the recently awarded RSES Technical Services Contract at NASA Langley Research Center, AMA is seeking a Scrum Master for the Airborne Science Mission Team. A Hybrid work environment is a consideration for this position; however, the individual must be able to work onsite at NASA Langley in Hampton, VA for several days each calendar month. The salary range $80,000-$125,000 and is commensurate with experience and education.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Type of work includes, but is not limited to:

  • Scrum Master for Airborne Science:
    • Coach teams in the use of agile principles to track their work
    • Assist the team in the application of agile principles to improve team productivity and enable continuous improvement.
    • Mentor other scrum masters.
    • Scrum Master Community of Practice:
    • Continue growing and advertising the group meeting to promote regular attendance and participation
    • Enable collaboration outside of the meetings, via Microsoft Teams.
  • Airborne Science Community Support:
    • Support the airborne community by ensuring that published data is easily discoverable and available for use in future projects.
    • Communicate efforts and scientific findings of the Principle Investigators by contributing to journal publications and presentations at AGU conferences.
    • Attend science team meetings as a representative of our airborne science efforts, to better understand related science campaigns that overlap or add to airborne science projects.
  • Airborne Science Metadata Extraction Pipeline Development:
    • Develop metadata extraction pipelines that allow for quickly and reliably ingesting data from airborne science campaigns.
    • Optimize processes to allow for archiving data from campaigns dating as far back as the 1980’s.
    • Continuously improve the reliability and performance, while archiving data of new campaigns and implement updates of existing campaigns in a timely manner.
    • Improve tools for ease of use that will allow new developers (and non-developers) to quickly and easily archive data acquired during airborne science campaigns.
  • Cross Training:
    • Train and mentor new developers within the team, and teach advanced Python techniques
    • Automate problematic tasks for non-developers, such as visualization
    • Python based data analysis for server records to produce valuable metrics
    • Automate manually intensive tasks such as checking metadata for errors and setting visibility of files in the system.
  • User Support
    • Author guidelines for the forum on the topics of accessing ASDC data using Python, Wget, and cURL.
    • Respond to forum and user services questions dealing with ASDC data download scripts and adjacent topics.

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • U.S. Citizenship is required.
    • BS in Computer Science or related engineering or scientific discipline, with a minimum of 3 or more years of relevant experience
    • Languages: Python, JavaScript, C#, Java, HTML, CSS
    • Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, deemed paramount for conveying results, leading teams, and facilitating long-term research support
    • Ability to think critically and suitably present technical information to decision-makers
    • Positive, determined, and always curious, and able to work well in teams
    • Scrum Master certification is preferred
    • Skill in DevOps, Micro-service development, Full stack development, Data engineering, and Data science is desired

    Other Essential Functions:

    • Valid driver's license required
    • Must be able to work in a team atmosphere
    • Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation
    • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others
    • The work environment requires the ability to cooperate and work with individuals at all levels of the company and the client
    • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance as required
