By joining the Division of Water/Field Operations Branch/Louisville Regional Office as an Environmental Scientist 1 in Oldham county, you will have the opportunity to provide entry-level assistance and technical oversight to businesses, state and federal agencies, local governments, and/or the general public in the development, interpretation and implementation of environmental protection, environmental mitigation, energy and natural resource policies; in the evaluation of possible violations of laws and regulations; the study of the economic effects of national and state energy, environmental and natural resource policies; review and analysis for avoidance, minimization, and mitigation of environmental impacts; the collection and analysis of scientific data; the remediation of contaminants; and the performance of environmental, natural resource, energy and other scientific duties as required.
Holders of the position will complete tasks such as:
- Frequent travel/driving - typically local
- Work in a field setting
- Evaluate compliance with issued permits and CWA and SDWA regulations
- Enter fieldwork findings into the agency database
- Frequent interaction with the public and regulated community
- Water sampling techniques
- Basic understanding of drinking water and wastewater treatment
- Non point source BMP evaluation for water quality protection
- Basic computer skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Drinking water or wastewater treatment experience
- Methodical record keeping and documentation
