Responsibilities:
Assist and support the education and sponsored-project missions of The Geospatial Center at Delta State University through performance of the following tasks and responsibilities including, but not limited to:
  • Provide instruction and mentorship to both matriculated and non-matriculated students through the following means:
    • Teach not more than 2 undergraduate or graduate courses per regular 15-week semester (commensurate with sponsored project work).
    • Serve as a professional role model for students through mentorship and coaching.
    • Assist in the development of hands-on software lessons in remote sensing and GIS.
  • Assist with, or where possible, provide leadership for the solicitation and management of sponsored projects and research within the geospatial technologies domain that actively engage graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Serve as the Assistant Director, UN-SPIDER North America Regional Support Office and provide such assistance and technical advice as requested by the international community in support of climate change and disaster planning, risk reduction, response, and recovery.
  • Assist with the creation and publication of peer-reviewed research, procedural manuals, grant proposals, white papers, and other publications related to Center activities.
  • Assist the Director with organizing and/or representing the Center at professional meetings and conferences related to Center interests.
  • Manage all Center hardware and software systems as needed.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key geospatial stakeholders to include those businesses and consumers of Center graduates, data and products.
  • Provide outreach, needs assessment, and technical guidance on geospatial technologies via service to the profession.
  • Other such duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Candidates must meet all minimum qualifications:
  • A masters degree (non-professional program based) in "Remote sensing and Geographic Information Systems".
  • A minimum of 5-years of practical experience of which 1-year or more is at the project manager or higher level.
  • Proficiency with at least 3 of the following image processing and GIS software solutions: ENVI (SARScape, photogrammetry and atmospheric correction modules), ArcGIS (Pro, SQL, Enterprise Solutions), QGIS (with Geo- or Map-Server), MapBox, ERDAS Imagine, Hexagon CWS and Geomedia.
  • Proficiency in coding with Python (Jupyter notebooks, Anaconda), R (raster and/or terra, RStudio), and Javascript.
  • Demonstrated experience in the use of geospatial technologies in at least 3 of the following application spaces: disaster/emergency response and management, agriculture and water resources, climate change, transportation, or utilities.
  • Experienced with calibration of L0 satellite data (radiometric and geometric).
  • Experienced in processing L0 satellite based optical and SAR data to ready-for-analysis products.
  • Experienced in drafting guidelines and standards in remote sensing.
  • Demonstrated experience creating any combination of MOOC, short-course, workshop, or academic course for international use.
  • Outstanding organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills as demonstrated through participation in significant English-language scientific meetings/conferences, peer-review journal publications, and/or team leadership.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, working knowledge of Google Docs, working knowledge of Microsoft Exchange.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time. Travel may be within the United States or internationally to both developed and developing nations as permissible.

    • Application of remote sensing in agriculture and water resources
    • Enterprise GIS systems.
    • Drone based remote sensing analysis.
    • Lab-based spectroradiometry
    • Photogrammetry.
  • 3-5 years of program management/supervision experience in the geospatial industry workforce or higher education.
  • Research activities resulting in peer-review publications about the use of geospatial technologies for agriculture, homeland security, or emergency/disaster, or geospatial project management.
  • Academic course design/pedagogic experience with geospatial technologies.
  • Experience with developing and/or implementing OGC standards.
Salary:
12 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and universitys resources.
