Memorial Health is Hiring a Remote Coder | Medical Records (REMOTE, Must Live in Ohio)

Accurately codes outpatient and/or inpatient encounters utilizing appropriate coding manuals and/or encoder; adheres to official coding guidelines as published by the American Hospital Association and the American Medical Association, and to H.I.M. Standards of Conduct within the Coding Compliance Plan for coding, with the intent to promote quality documentation to support the appropriate use of codes for correct reimbursement; codes diagnoses and procedures of inpatient and/or outpatient encounters, utilizing appropriate code manuals and/or encoder to select accurate codes; demonstrates knowledge of current developments in coding field to maintain proficiency in job performance; communicates with medical staff as needed if questions regarding documentation arise that impact code assignment and clarification is needed; researches coding questions utilizing available online reference materials within the encoder and hardcopy reference manuals; act as a resource for business office personnel in researching failed claims due to National Coverage Determination and Local Coverage Determination edits; works cooperatively and in a timely manner with business office personnel to follow up on failed claims to assist with timely billing; enters diagnosis codes, procedure codes and other required data elements into computer system for billing and statistical reporting purposes; codes patient accounts in a timely manner - defined as within 5 days of discharge for all patient accounts (as long as needed documentation is on chart). Monitors accounts receivables report per coding manager for assigned patient types for coding; follows-up on un-coded accounts list as sent per coding manager to ensure all accounts are coded in a timely manner. Identifies problem accounts and takes necessary steps to resolve the problems (i.e. no show patients or accounts with DNB assignment); notifies the Coding Manager when assistance is needed or questions arise as a result of a problem account. Maintains required licenses and/or certifications (Certified Coding Specialist, Registered Health Information Technician, etc.); achieves required competencies. Exhibits behaviors reflective of Memorial’s core values: Compassion, Accountability, Respect, Excellence, and Service. Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance. Attends all mandatory education and in-services (i.e., team training, safety, infection control, etc.); completes mandatory health requirements. Employee performs within the prescribed limits of the hospital’s and department’s Ethics and Compliance program and is responsible to detect, observe and report compliance variances to their immediate supervisor, or upward through the chain of command, the Compliance Officer, or the hospital hotline.

Requirements
At least two years coding experience in a hospital setting. Knowledge of 3M encoder preferred. Experience with an electronic medical record required. Knowledge of medical terminology required. Experience with filing and retrieval methods, and general office practices preferred. Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Associate (CCA), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Professional Coder for hospital outpatient (CPC-H), and/or at least two years coding experience in a hospital setting.

***Remote position, however must reside in Ohio.
