We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Project Engineering Supervisor to join the MQ-9B Engineering Development team located in Poway, CA.
Under general supervision with limited review, this position is responsible for systems engineering, technical leadership, and managing a team of skilled engineers for the MQ-9B Air Vehicle. Position interacts with aircraft subsystems including: structures, propulsion, fuel, mass properties, avionics, data links, communications and others. Primary role is supervisory, and is a technical lead with budget and schedule responsibilities. Activities include coordinating: upgrades, modification, qualification, and certification of a new unmanned aircraft variants currently in development.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide technical leadership and ownership within the MQ-9B engineering group.
  • Supervise a diverse team of engineers, including those with mechanical, electrical, and aerospace engineering backgrounds.
  • Coordinate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Certification Verification Engineers (CVEs), Office of Airworthiness and Systems Safety ensuring activities are aligned with the certification basis and its proposed means of compliance.
  • Provide project engineering support in conjunction with the program management.
  • Define work scope, deliverables, budget estimates (NRE, materials, travel), and schedule for out-years and support status and execution of current efforts.
  • Review and approve technical, certification, and qualification documentation.
  • Support UAS/aircraft flight and ground test activities.
  • Work with the functional engineering managers/directors to ensure priorities and scope are well defined and resource allocations are planned to ensure staffing is adequate to meet schedule.
  • Represent the Chief Engineer’s office at program and technical reviews as well as Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with customers.
  • Coordinate with functional design engineers from various technical areas to solve relevant qualification issues and keep certification efforts on track and within program scope.
  • Act as technical representative for customer and management meetings by presenting technical content at design reviews (e.g. Certification Panels, SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, etc.).
  • Work with program managers to provide technical coordination of vendors and suppliers by ensuring SOWs and technical specifications are written and correct.
  • Coordinate meetings and technical reviews with responsible design engineers and subcontractors.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications:
  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a masters degree, or ten or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project and/or program leadership including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
  • Must posses the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex technical problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
  • Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment.
  • Able to work extended hours as required.
  • A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to a national or international engineering symposium, and invited to Chair engineering review panels as a technical expert are desirable.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.
