Mission:
At Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), we Make it Real through learning, research, creativity, service and discovery — the hallmarks of the VCU experience. A premier, urban, public research university nationally recognized as one of the best employers for diversity, VCU is a great place to work. VCU offers employees work flexibility, a generous leave package, career paths for advancement, competitive pay, and an opportunity to do mission-driven work.

The mission of the VCU School of Education’s Center for Teacher Leadership is to promote and support teacher and adult learner leadership in order to improve teaching and learning by: advancing the concept of teachers as change agents, providing high-quality training to develop passionate, effective leaders, and sharing the knowledge, experience and insight of teachers with policymakers and other stakeholders. We believe that one of the fastest ways to improve student learning is to support and develop the teachers themselves, transforming them into confident, passionate leaders. To that end, the center has created a number of diverse programs, all designed to provide training and education that advance the profession of teaching. This includes the RTR Teacher Residency program, that pairs teaching residents with experienced educators in our 16 high-needs, hard-to-staff partner districts for a year-long residency. We also house the Virginia Adult Learning Resource Center that provides adult education and literacy resources, publications, and training for Virginia’s adult education practitioners, equipping the field of adult education with essential skills and resources.
