What you’ll do

The Business Services Officer is responsible for soliciting, developing, and maintaining profitable account relationships with business members. The Officer will review commercial loan and deposit needs and deepen existing member relationships; serving as a member advocate in securing suitable credit. They will actively promote and cross sell the Credit Union’s products and services.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

  • Make outside sales calls to develop new and existing business relationships and to present Canvas products and services.
  • Build new commercial relationships and answer complex questions from branch personnel in the solicitation, processing, and servicing of all business loan products. ​
  • Grow revenue as directed by senior leadership by successfully prospecting for new business and retaining and expanding existing customer relationships.
  • Achieve or exceed annual production goals for closed commercial loans, new deposits, and referrals to business partners.
  • Provide financial advice to members and sell appropriate credit union products and services to prospects and clients.
  • Assist in the origination process for commercial and small business loans.
  • Perform initial loan analysis and structure incoming loan requests in accordance with Canvas loan policies.
  • Perform file maintenance and/​or file audits on commercial loans as needed, including changes of ownership, modifications, payoffs, etc.​
  • Maintain a high level of service, consistency and professionalism by delivering Canvas Core Values to internal, external and prospective members.
  • Research and resolve internal and external member issues in a timely, consistent and professional manner.
  • Exhibit support for the organization’s goals, values, initiatives and cost control.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of general economic conditions or changing trends that may affect the credit union’s lending programs. Provide timely feedback that allows the credit union to react competitively.
  • Maintain knowledge of competitors’ rates and t5erms and other trends relating to lending.
  • Ensure contracts and relationships with members comply with Canvas requirements, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Comply with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) and other compliance requests and requirements.
  • Follow all safety and security guidelines to properly safeguard member and organization assets.
  • Embrace ongoing education and learn/apply new skills and software applications.
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate filing system.
  • Regular attendance and punctuality are essential functions of the job.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Knowledge, Skill and Ability:

  • Demonstrated sales and credit related experience, negotiation skills, prospecting skills and accounting and or finance acumen.
  • Proven success in building strong relationships with business owners and developing new business to meet sales goals.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to explain programs, loan terms, features, policies and benefits to customers and business partners.
  • In-depth knowledge of multiple commercial loan types, commercial loan underwriting, analyzing financial statements and tax returns.
  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate pricing and fees.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of Canvas financial products and services.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Ability to maintain confidences.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado drivers’ license and provide proof of insurance.

Education or Formal Training: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. 

Experience: Minimum of five years of business banking, sales and credit related experience, including experience with risk based pricing. Small Business Administration (SBA) lending experience preferred.

This position has a starting pay range of $85,000.00-$95,000.00/annual, and final pay rate will be determined based on experience and internal equity factors. In this position, you will also be eligible for incentive pay.

NMLS

This role at Canvas requires Nationwide Multistate Licensing System (NMLS) registration under the S.A.F.E. Act of 2008. This means we conduct background checks to ensure NMLS registration and Canvas requirements are met. Not meeting or staying current may result in removal from role.

Canvas also conducts pre-employment background reviews (components include criminal, employment, address, social security number, motor vehicle record, sex offender, and global sanctions).

Working Environment/Physical Activities

High volume, fast-paced, dynamic office environment with some travel. Must be able to attend meetings and events outside of regular business hours. The job routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, copiers, fax machines and filing cabinets. The position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and open filing cabinets. The position requires bending, stooping, or standing as necessary.
