Mathematics and English Language Arts are beautiful subjects, full of compelling intellectual challenges and deep connections to virtually every aspect of life. Being a math or ELA tutor is a wonderful opportunity to support students in developing their critical thinking, socio-emotional, and math/ELA understanding -- skills that they will use throughout their lives. Each student sees these subjects from a unique perspective, which is often very different from our own. This is why teaching Math/ELA requires more creativity (and more understanding) than we might imagine. Our goal is to engage tutors who are committed to tutoring students in an equitable and student-centered manner by making a dynamic online learning environment which encourages student-to-student interaction and builds deep conceptual understanding.

Cignition works with you to provide online tutoring sessions that match your schedule and tutoring interests. We provide tutors with instructional resources and our unique system aggregates detailed topic and concept-level data collected through student activities. Each session begins with tutors receiving a rich profile for each student from which to best understand their needs.

Cignition has several grant-based and district-specific programs launching that require tutors to be available consistently for 30-60 minute windows 2-5 times per week. These programs last from one semester to an entire school year and can take place between 8 am and 8pm EST on weekdays. Weekend sessions may be available during the school year depending on a school district's need. These programs have an expectation that tutors work with the same small groups each week as relationships are crucial to student learning.

Our Model for the Midwest Region Program:

• K - 12th Grade Math and English Language Arts (ELA)
• Monday - Friday, before/during/after-school
• 1:1 Sessions and Group Sessions (up to 4:1)The bulk of sessions are likely to be 4:1
• 30 to 45 minutes per session, 3 to 5 times per week for 25 to 30 weeks
• Requires fingerprinting to be completed.Non-Ohio residents will need to complete manual/ink fingerprinting (by means of an FD-1164 or FD-258 card)

Ohio residents can complete digital fingerprinting (by means of WebCheck)

• Candidates in OH or border states (that are willing to commute within Ohio state lines to complete fingerprinting) are preferred due to the speed at which digital fingerprinting is cleared, but all candidates willing to complete fingerprinting are eligibleAs part of your commitment, we ask that you:

What you’ll need:

• Bachelor’s degree in Education or a Math/ELA related field
• Access to a computer with a reliable internet connection
• A strong belief that all students can succeed; regardless of their race, class, or gender
• Experience teaching/tutoring small groups of students
• Math/ELA content and pedagogical knowledge for teaching Math and ELA

Cignition’s school district clients determine the tutoring schedules and provide student rosters. Cignition program managers look at the tutor’s availability and credentials. If there is a match between the school district’s requirements and the tutor’s availability and credentials, the program manager will contact the tutor. Many of our school districts also require fingerprinting and other clearances in order to book tutoring sessions.

Compensation and Benefits:
