Position Title Medical Lab Scientist Olathe Health Cancer Center 15123 S. OMC Parkway Position Summary / Career Interest: Performs a variety of laboratory and diagnostic procedures in Hematology, Urinalysis, Chemistry, Serology, Coagulation and Phlebotomy on specimens obtained on clinic patients to provide information for diagnosing and combating disease. The Medical Technologist (Certified) is expected to support the mission, vision and values of Olathe Medical Services, Inc. Responsibilities: Analyzes patient, control and proficiency testing specimens and records results in a timely manner according to laboratory policy. Calibrates, maintains, operates and troubleshoots instrumentation issues and completes appropriate documentation. Completes continuing education and submits appropriate documentation where applicable. Follows regulatory, accreditation, safety and hospital standards, policies and procedures. Instructs, orients and mentors students, employees, residents, patients and other health care providers as applicable. Maintains an adequate inventory of all supplies. Accurately prepares, labels and stores reagents, standards, controls and specimens for analysis. Participates in quality assurance and quality improvement activities. Performs phlebotomy and sample collection as applicable. Reviews and correlates results of laboratory tests to each other and with the patient's condition, recognizing abnormal results and critical/alert values. Verifies accuracy of results. Required: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree and educational requirements as required to become certified with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), or the American Medical Technologists (AMT).2 Year / Associate Degree OR educational requirements as needed to become certified with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency (NCA), the American Medical Technologists (AMT). OR must have completed an HEW approved school of Medical Technology or the successful completion of a United States Military Laboratory training program and a minimum of 10 years of hospital lab experience required with out certification. Minimum of 1 year of experience in the clinical laboratory field required without a Bachelors Degree. Medical Technologist-MT(ASCP), or Medical Laboratory Scientist-MLS(ASCP) or Clinical Laboratory Scientist CLS(NCA) or Medical Technologist-MT(AMT), or ASCP Specialist Certification (MB, SBB, SC, SH, or SM). Those without a Bachelors degree must be certified as a Medical Laboratory Technician-MLT(ASCP), or Clinical Laboratory Technician-CLT(NCA), or Medical Laboratory Technician-MLT(AMT), or Clinical laboratory Technologist-CLT(HEW), or United States Military Laboratory training program Certificate of Completion, or certification eligible. If certification is not acquired within the first 90 days, the incumbent will automatically be changed to a Medical Technologist-certified(20220) or Medical Technologist(20216).
