The Growing Justice Fund seeks a self-starter, collaborative, proactive and strategic Operations Manager to join its team.

The Operations Manager will be critical in overseeing and managing the operations function and supporting the Advisory Committee in executing the fund’s mission. Reporting directly to the Chair of the Advisory Committee, the Operations Manager will be responsible for creating and managing operational processes, planning, implementing, and executing a wide range of initiatives that align with the board’s strategic goals and objectives. The individual must be a big-picture thinker, planner, and self-starter with strong project management, technology, process development, and organizational skills. The successful candidate will also possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills and the ability to work effectively with various teams and stakeholders.

This is a remote, US-based position, with the ability to travel occasionally to Washington, DC, ideally based in Washington DC, and requires a highly organized and self-disciplined individual who can effectively work with agility and focus within a start-up environment. Available to travel domestically to site visits with grantees between 2-4 times a year.

Growing Justice is a pooled fund co-designed by funders, farmers, advocates, food suppliers, purchasers, and community partners from Native and non-native communities nationwide. Growing Justice envisions a future in which Tribal, Indigenous, Black, Latinx, Asian, and immigrant people engaged in food markets as suppliers, producers, distributors, workers, and eaters at community-serving institutions are economically and physically thriving thanks in part to efforts by large community institutions to prioritize equitable good food procurement. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the Growing Justice board to manage the grant cycle, including reviewing grant applications, tracking approvals, and monitoring grant outcomes.
  • Develop and implement processes to streamline the grants cycle and reporting. 
  • Draft executive communications and develop financial reporting to aid decision-making.
  • Present recommendations to the board for consideration and action, based on thorough analysis and strategic foresight.
  • Coordinate with Advisory Committee and vendors to implement technology solutions, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and budget.
  • Assist in the preparation of board meetings, including agenda creation, documentation preparation, travel, and other meeting logistics.
  • Serve as a liaison between members of the board of directors, providing necessary support and information as required.
  • Maintain accurate records of board meetings and decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to gather insights and perspectives. 
  • Able to communicate stakeholder feedback to board and incorporate feedback into operational processes to ensure alignment with organizational objectives. 
  • Manage all organizational emails and online correspondences in alignment with values and mission. 

Requirements and Skills 

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, nonprofit management or a related field or 7 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in business operations management and managing grant cycles with a deep understanding of organizational processes and best practices. 
  • Strong project management skills. Proven ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple stakeholders and projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in database management and project management software, with a proven track record of effectively implementing and utilizing these tools to streamline operations. 
  • Strong knowledge and experience with developing budgets, forecasting models and utilizing spreadsheets for data analysis. 
  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Google Suite and Workplace, Slack, Zoom, Airtable or similar WorkOS/database platform, survey tools like Typeform or Survey Monkey.
  • Experience in website hosting/builder platforms like Squarespace, Wordpress or Webflow preferred.
Salary & Benefits
The salary for this role is $90,000 - $115,000 and will be commensurate with experience. Generous benefits package that includes 100% employer-paid health insurance (medical, dental, and vision), 401k match, PTO and leave policies and remote work stipend. 

This position will be formally housed at the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation, which is the sister philanthropy to Amalgamated Bank. The Growing Justice Fund is a part of the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation.
