Duties: Window/Mail - Handle Defensive Driving Applications. Qualify applicants according to law. Determine compliance with completion criteria and dismiss or set cases for show cause. Handle Deferred Disposition. Prepare orders granting deferred disposition of cases including terms of probation, collection of fees and management of the file during the term of probation. Handle Payments by cash, check and/or credit card. Process VISA & Mastercard Payments. Be responsible that all cases have been properly paid and satisfied. Handle compliance dismissals (All of the foregoing are to be handled in accordance with the Court's standing order, a copy of which is attached) Assure compliance with state law in collection of additional cost of $25.00 on each case where more than 30 days is needed for payment of fines. Handle Resets. Reset cases for future arraignment or trial dockets. Handle Personal Bonds and Bail Bonds. Understand and apply the requirements for each kind of appearance bond; assure that bonds are properly prepared and filed. Secure defendant's plea on cash bonds in the event of subsequent failure to appear. Identify Warrants and Capias Warrants. Determine whether an individual making payment is, in fact, subject to an arrest warrant and deal with the matter of causing the warrant to be executed. Deal with complaints from citizens who are dissatisfied with any aspect of the system or who are denied the relief that they seek. Deal with high volume business by managing dockets in addition to those persons seeking to deal with their cases off of the street. Interface with jail on payment of fines and receipt of bonds. Translate, as needed, to the proper disposition of cases.

Data Entry - Receive hand-written and electronic tickets from the city police department, PISD police, the city's code enforcement personnel or Citizens' Police Academy. Input data from tickets into computer as required by the kind of ticket received. Identify charges i.e. determine a proper formal charge as might relate to the language contained on a ticket. Assure that proper DPS codes and court costs are included with each charge. Prepare, sign and verify complaints that are formal charging documents for trials. Interact with Police Department on special complaints, probable cause affidavits and for offense and similar reports. Respond to telephone inquiries regarding the management of cases and dockets. Prepare and mail reset notices for cases with incorrect court dates on citations

Court - Manage Docket by checking defendants into the court. Translate as necessary. Prepare payment plans. Handle resets for future court dates. Secure waivers of jury trial. Set Jury and non-jury trials. Manage Forfeiture, Motion and Privileged Parking Dockets. Assist in management of juvenile docket matters including but not limited to preparation and submission of DIC 81 forms to the State. Notification of citizens of jury duty. Work with local lawyers to resolve 20-25% of all cases filed

Warrant - Input and clear warrants and capias pro fines from local and County systems. Prepare arrest warrants, failure to appear complaints and capias pro fine warrants. Identify and associate warrants with people (This function, if done improperly or carelessly could result in the arrest of an innocent person or the failure to detain a criminal). Interact with other agencies on warrants. Assists "window" clerks by faxing "holds" and release requests to Police Department

Bonds - Handle bond forfeiture matters including preparation of judgments nisi, and the scire facias docket (This process is a civil procedure engrafted into the criminal process and requires application of an entirely different set of rules and procedures). Be able to differentiate among written bonds, cash bonds and personal bonds and apply the rules appropriate to each in the management of bonded cases in the court.

Jail - Work with bonding companies on release of prisoners. Prepare and complete paperwork associated with jail to include the data entry and bonding information. Interact with jail on management and release of prisoners. Clear warrants from local and county systems. Be in actual attendance at court dockets conducted at the jail and assist the judge in the preparation and completion of complaints, judgments, orders of commitment and magistrate warnings.

Collections - The employee would generate extension of time for payment of fines and court costs, a payment plan or community service based on defendant's financial resources. Refer persons having special issues or showing indicia of indigence to the Judge for personal disposition. Determine payment schedule if an extension of time for payment is granted. Prepare amortization schedule for defendants.

Must have and maintain, without interruption, all necessary licenses, certifications, clearances, and/or job requirements. Works the assigned schedule and complies with the City's timekeeping and attendance policy.

Qualifications: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Basic computer skills and use of Windows-based applications. Typing skills of 45 wpm. Good "people skills" PREFERRED: Ability to read, write and speak Spanish is an asset
