Travel Dialysis Technician

Concerto Renal Services is an industry leader in nursing home dialysis. We are a rapidly expanding business with a simple mission: reimagining dialysis care, one community at a time. Our model focuses on ensuring those with end-stage renal disease receive the best possible care through a more convenient, centralized, continuous care model.

Summary/Objective

Concerto is seeking a Travel Dialysis Technician to join its team! The Travel Dialysis Technician is a newly created role in which the technician is salaried and is on-call five days a week. Some weeks, depending on call-offs and coverage, the Travel Dialysis Technician may work up to six days a week, while other weeks may result in less work. The technician is eligible for overtime. The Travel Dialysis Technician functions as part of the hemodialysis health care team in providing safe and effective dialysis therapy for patients, working under the supervision of a licensed nurse in accordance with Concerto’s policies, procedures, and training and in compliance with regulations set for by state and federal agencies.

Essential Functions

  • Provides direct patient care for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a licensed nurse.
  • Provide excellent customer services to all external and internal customers, patients/families, co-workers, physicians, and long-term care staff.
  • Obtain pre and post treatment vitals, weight and vascular access assessment. Report any unusual changes or findings to the nurse.
  • Responsible for the setup, operation and performing safety checks of hemodialysis machines.
  • Initiate and discontinue dialysis treatment according to prescribed orders and policy.
  • Perform heparin administration as allowed by state law.
  • Responsible for timely and accurate documentation of information related to patient treatment including vital signs, treatment parameters, and change in condition.
  • Assist in the maintenance of a safe and clean working environment.
  • Obtain and prepare laboratory specimens as prescribed.

Expectations:

  • Your phone must be on high volume on days you are on-call.
  • Return a call from managers within 15 minutes. If there is no answer or return call this will count as an absence.
  • On-call means you can be called anytime as long as it is your scheduled workday.
  • You are responsible for and expected to cover any facility in your assigned state if you are on call that day.
  • 3rd shift is possible, so be prepared to work the whole day.
  • If you are covering an on-call shift and leave early from your location, this will also count as an absence unless it is an emergency.
  • Make sure management is aware of updated phone numbers.

Expectations & Benefits of Travel Roles

Expectations:

  • The Travel Dialysis Technician staffs Concerto facilities across all markets nationwide. The incumbent will travel regularly.
  • Work location on any given day or week will be determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to patient census, leave of absence coverage and fluctuating staffing needs in general.
  • The Travel Dialysis Technician is generally “on-call” Monday through Friday, meaning at any point Monday through Friday, the travel teammate may be required to staff any Concerto facility. As a result, there will be times when the teammate is required to travel out of state with little notice. Phone calls and text messages from managers to travel teammates on scheduled on-call days must be returned within 15 minutes. If there is no answer or return call, this will count as an absence and the on-call teammates will be required to use available Paid Time Off to cover the absence.
  • An exception to the 15-minute response time rule is made for overnight contacts. Specifically, between the hours of 9:00PM and 4:00AM, teammates may check their phones whenever it is convenient for them.
  • The travel teammate may work up to six days a week, while other weeks may result in less work.
  • If the travel teammate is not needed outside of their home state on any given day, they will be “on-call” may be called into work for any local unit.
  • While the Travel Dialysis Technician will generally work Monday-Friday, because of fluctuating staffing needs, the workdays may occasionally vary from the Monday-Friday schedule. In these instances, the leadership team will provide as much notice as is operationally possible so the teammate can plan accordingly.
  • In the event a travel teammate works a Saturday or Sunday, they will be paid their hourly rate for working those hours, in addition to their base salary.
  • Travel teammates should follow market-specific protocol for calling off, first notifying designated market leadership of their impending absence, and then notifying the travel manager.
  • If the travel teammate is unavailable to work their scheduled shift or complete an assignment for any reason, the absence will be subject to Concerto’s standard Attendance and Paid Time Off Policies and the associated corrective action schedule for any violations.

Benefits:

  • $25 cell phone reimbursement per pay period
  • Biweekly stipend of $700, which is intended to cover the cost of meals and incidental costs associated with travel. The teammate will receive the stipend even if they are not required to travel out of state during a given pay period.
  • If a teammate is required to travel for seven consecutive weeks, they will have three options for the eight week –
  • Travel home (paid by Concerto) and utilize 40 hours of PTO to take the week off of work;
  • Travel home (paid by Concerto) and be scheduled “On call” in home market, meaning the teammate may be required to work, depending on staffing needs in the market.
  • Continue traveling.
  • If the teammate chooses to continue traveling, they will be required to return home after 12 weeks of consecutive travel.
  • Additional pay at hourly base rate if teammate works a Saturday, in addition to base salary.
  • Overtime pay for hours worked over 40 per week.
  • Travel teammate may stay in a hotel (though it is not required) if they are traveling more than 60 miles in one direction for a work obligation.
  • Travel teammate will be eligible for mileage reimbursement when driving their personal vehicle for business purposes, in accordance with Concerto’s Travel Policy.
  • As with any direct care positions, travel teammates will generally be required to work on Holidays. However, as a benefit of travel position with Concerto, each travel teammate will be scheduled off for at least one of the following six federal holidays: New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, or Christmas Day.
