Salary:

The Utility Locator is responsible for the correct, safe and efficient locating and marking of utilities. The Utility Locator is responsible for Damage Prevention by completing their work tasks accurately and efficiently.

What You'll be Doing:

  • Utility Identification: Use specialized equipment and tools accurately identify the presence and depth of underground utilities.
  • Marking and Flagging: Once utilities are identified, the locator must clearly mark their positions on the ground using appropriate marking materials, such as paint, flags, or stake.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with construction crews, contractors, engineers, and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate utility locating activities and ensure that projects proceed safely and efficiently.
  • Works with various software to track, identify and report locate tickets.
  • Documents accurate records of all work completed, including site drawings or photographs when required.
  • Works on call as scheduled to respond to after-hours emergency tickets.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with the latest utility locating techniques, equipment and safety practices to enhance job performance and maintain industry standards.
  • Operate company vehicles in a safe, secure, and law-abiding manner.

Job Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in utility locating, construction, surveying, or a related field is advantageous.
  • Able to use a computer and other electronic equipment.
  • Familiarity with utility maps, blueprints, and survey drawings is beneficial.
  • Ability to operate and maintain utility locating equipment, while interpreting data accurately.
  • Maintain accurate records of all work completed, including site drawings or photographs when required.
  • Strong physical fitness and the ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Must be highly self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Follows instructions and pays attention to details.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications for data entry and reporting.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills for collaboration with team members, clients, and the general public.
  • Able to provide information to supervisors and co-workers by telephone, in written form, e-mail.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Some heavy lifting (25 — 50 lbs) may be required.
  • Valid Driver’s license with a clean DMV driving record.
  • Must have flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the business.

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Vocational school training or apprenticeship preferred.
