Middle School Librarian, Leave Replacement Beginning August 21, 2024, through Early March 2025
Position: Middle School Librarian, Leave Replacement Reports to: Middle School Division Head and Director of Library and Media Studies FLSA: Exempt, full-time Salary Range: Prorated, based on an annualized salary of $65,000 to $75,000 commensurate with education and experience Summary: Convent of the Sacred Heart is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic Middle School Librarian. The ideal candidate will have three or more years of library teaching experience and a demonstrated interest in middle-school education. This is a full-time maternity leave position, August through March 3, 2025, beginning late August 2024. Responsibilities: Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: ADMINISTRATIVE
Develop and maintain a collection of resources in various formats for grades 5 to 8 on all topics, meeting the needs of different levels of maturity at each grade level and different learning styles
Recommend and implement annual expenditures for Middle School collection development
Maintain financial records for the Middle School library program
Ensure the relevancy of the collection using a systematic review of library materials (in collaboration with the Lower School Librarian)
Cataloging and processing responsibilities to maintain the collection and increase access to required resources
Manage and care for Lower/Middle School Library facility, equipment, and furnishings (in collaboration with the Lower School Librarian)
Other duties as assigned by the Library Department Chair
TEACHING
Plan and prepare weekly Middle School library class lessons that foster independence in learning by teaching skills in finding, using, and presenting information
Collaborate with Middle School faculty to create and carry out projects within the curriculum, integrating the use of research skills and technologies throughout the Middle School curriculum
Foster an interest in books and a love of literature through the summer reading program, book talks, book clubs, and other activities
Introduce students to literature in various formats, including print, e-books, audiobooks, and graphic novels.
Respond to individual reference questions posed by faculty and students
Plan and participate in special events for Middle School students, faculty, and parents that promote the library and literature, including an annual Book Fair, Curriculum Nights, and author visits
FACULTY CONSULTING
Contribute to and collaborate in the maintenance of a Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 scope and sequence of library instruction
Provide information for the school community, including new instructional materials and new techniques that can be used to strengthen instruction, focusing on the Middle School community
Provide resources to assist Middle School teachers in achieving instructional goals
Plan and participate in Middle School staff development programs
OTHER
Meet regularly with the Head of the Middle School
Attend Library Department meetings, faculty meetings, and in-service days
Represent the Lower/Middle School Library at Middle School faculty and parent events
Coordinate and collaborate with parent groups to organize the annual Book Fair, author visits, library volunteers, and other events
Collaborate with Technology Integrationist to develop programs
Keep abreast of professional literature and attend relevant professional meetings
Reports to the Head of the Middle School and the Director of Library Media Services
Requirements & Qualifications:
Master’s degree in Library Science
A minimum of 3 years experience in a school library
Relevant experience in teaching and working with children in grades 5 to 8
Knowledge of young adult literature and a willingness to read outside of work
Fluency in Google Apps for Education, Ebsco Stacks, and Follett Destiny
Knowledge of, appreciation for, and demonstrated commitment to anti-racist and anti-bias education, multicultural teaching, and culturally responsive pedagogy
