Job Purpose

The ReStore Assistant Manager’s responsibility is to provide support to the ReStore Manger, engage in a wide variety of tasks in the ReStore, and act as manager on duty in Manager’s absence.

Schedule

Full-Time; non-exempt; Tues-Sat 9am-6pm (or flexed to serve the organization including rotating to different store locations in the HFHC region)

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Operations

  • Ensures adherence to administrative policies and procedures
  • Recognizes that Restore is often one's first impression of Habitat for Humanity and ensures Habitat’s reputation.
  • Helps maintain a clean, well merchandised, and orderly environment.
  • Supports the store manager by providing daily oversight of staff and volunteers and ensuring that all departments are adequately covered.
  • Provides quality customer service and handles grievances professionally.
  • Assists with the facilitation of proper maintenance of building, equipment including copiers, scanners POS system and vehicles, etc.
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and accident procedures.
  • Help identify and communicate solutions to issues that may arise relating to operations so that the smooth running of the ReStore is optimally maintained.
  • Participate as necessary, with Marketing and Development in creating, rolling out and measuring marketing, advertising and social media programs to increase donations, sales and volunteer participation.
  • Assist in the day to day operation of the ReStore as needed (lift & move merchandise (up to 50 lbs) from showroom floor to warehouse and vice versa, run cash register, load/unload customer vehicles or donations trucks, etc.)
  • Attend scheduled staff meetings and company-wide trainings as requested or required.

Staff & Volunteer Management

  • Train and manage ReStore staff and volunteers in accordance with policies and ensure staff is well versed about Habitat's program and local activities.
  • Facilitate a positive, team-oriented environment in which all staff and volunteers are given the opportunity to achieve their full potential.
  • Assist the store manager with addressing and documenting violations of policies and code of conduct by staff, and recommend action regarding chronic or serious situations.
  • Take an active role in volunteer recruitment and retention by working closely with the Volunteer Manager, ReStore Manager and/or ReStore Director when necessary.
  • Assist store manager with performance evaluation process for all employees and volunteers.

Reporting and Communications

  • Ensure volunteers are adequately trained and assist the store manager with the recruitment and retention of volunteers.
  • Consult with the store manager and Human Resource Manager (when appropriate) about staff and volunteer issues or concerns.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports as directed by the store manager.

Finance and Administration

  • Monitors daily cash and credit transactions and deposits.
  • Ensures proper procedures are followed.
  • Open and close cash registers ensuring proper procedures are followed
  • Work in conjunction with the ReStore Manager to develop annual operating budgets and recommend capital expenditures.
  • Provide backup for cashier and other positions when needed.

Policy and Planning

  • Participate in the implementation of short- and long-term strategies, goals and objectives.

Safety

  • As a management team member support & enforce safe work practices by all Habitat team members, volunteers, subcontractors and workers at all our locations and events to ensure we meet, if not exceed, OSHA and Habitat safety policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that all team members are aware of and operate by the safety policies and procedures for retail environment and transportation activities that look out for the welfare of our customers and donors.
  • Follow established protocols & immediately notify and collaborate with management on any safety related incident and/or respond to a report involving Habitat or any other related team members (workers, volunteers, and subcontractors).
  • If within area of purview initiate and / or provide assistance for the proper investigation regarding safety incidents by following Habitat Safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications/Licenses/Certificates and Other Requirements

  • High School diploma/GED and at least 1 year of retail and/or business related experience required.
  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 1 year retail management related experience preferred.
  • Valid drivers license preferred.
  • Ability to work and travel to various store locations in Anne Arundel, Howard and Baltimore County and City, required.
  • Self-motivated.
  • Ability to lead, train, and manage staff and volunteers in a positive manner.
  • Knowledge of sales, marketing, merchandising, and construction materials.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic computer skills are required including basic proficiency in Microsoft Office, POS operating systems and email, etc.
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and unexpected shifts in priorities.
  • Ability to pass a criminal background and drug screening test.

Working Conditions

Work occurs primarily in a retail store setting and may from time to time work in the administrative offices /professional office environment and/or visit a construction site. The role routinely uses retail environment equipment as well as laptop/desktop computers, photocopiers and smart phones. Travel to stores and periodically to construction sites and/or donor locations and vendor locations. The position may require travel to be outside in various weather conditions including extreme cold, extreme heat, rain, snow sleet etc.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 LBS, move retail items and displays, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. This job may require prolonged times of standing. Finger dexterity to use office equipment. This role will be in the offices, stores and periodically job sites or at an event and would need to comply with the organization’s safety guidelines.

This position supervises store team members, volunteers and others as assigned
