Description
The Historic New Orleans Collection (THNOC) is a museum, research center, and publisher dedicated to the study and preservation of the history and culture of New Orleans and the Gulf South region. The Collection is currently accepting resumes for the position of shop associate.
The shop associate position is responsible for shop sales, including processing phone and e-commerce orders. This position shares the responsibility of tagging and re-stocking merchandise and maintaining an orderly and clean workplace. The shop associate is also responsible for accuracy in handling money, entering sales onto the POS system, and reconciling the end of day money and reports. Additionally, this position completes projects and tasks related to the improvement of the shop when customers are not in the store. The shop associate represents THNOC to the public by communicating information about merchandise, programs, events, and exhibits.
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of one year of sales associate experience, including experience in using a POS system. The successful candidate shall possess exceptional customer service and communication skills and an ability to resolve problems while working under minimal supervision. This position regularly moves products up to 20 pounds to 50 pounds.
This is a full-time position working Thursday through Sunday and Tuesday. The work hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop associate must be flexible with his/her work schedule for the purpose of supporting THNOC events and meetings. Job Summary:
The Sales Associate welcomes customers, guides them to products, answers questions, processes sales, and ensures all guests have an exceptional experience while at THNOC's shop.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities below are essential core functions of this position. Other duties may be assigned as needed:
  • Welcomes public customers into The Shop
  • Provides guests with information on products
  • Drives sales through engagement of customers, suggestive selling, and sharing product knowledge

Required Job Qualifications
Education:
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
Experience:
  • Minimum of 1 year of retail experience
