POSITION SUMMARY: The Technician I position supports the transportation department by performing a variety of technical work in connection with engineering and planning projects in accordance with the TMACOG mission, vision, and strategic goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Provide support in preparing graphs, charts, tables, and other reports
• Assemble and prepare data for input
• Complete department data entry
• Perform various administrative/clerical activities

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS: Work is typically performed both in the office and outdoors. Intermittent sitting, standing, and stooping; must be able to occasionally move or lift objects of no more than 30 lbs[RH3] [DG4] . Field work is required to set up or collect data from traffic and pedestrian and bicycle counting equipment. The employee is regularly required to stand, talk, or hear in person or over the telephone.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works outdoors in variable weather conditions, and in an office setting. Work from a home office using equipment provided by employer is also expected.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Geography and Planning, or Geology preferred
• Up to 1 year of previous relevant experience preferred

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Traffic Counting
• Identifies traffic counts that need to be collected annually
• Places TMACOG radar, pneumatic hose, or camera counters-based traffic counter on area roadways throughout the TMACOG region
• Collects traffic counts from equipment
• Uploads traffic counts to TMACOG Traffic Count Database
• Oversees seasonal interns and coordinates activities

• Pedestrian/Bike Counting
• Works with TMACOG staff to identify pedestrian/bike [RH5] [DG6] facilities needing usage counts
• Places TMACOG equipment on ped/bike facilities to collect counts
• Collects counts from equipment
• Uploads counts to statewide database system

• Pavement Condition Ratings (PCR)
• Perform pavement condition ratings as requested by other TMACOG staff or TMACOG members
• Compile data into charts, graphs, or tables upon request

• GIS
• Work with other transportation staff to create data layers or maps for documents and reports
• Prepare charts, graphs tables and other reports as requested

SALARY:

$30,000 to $40,000 commensurate with education and experience.
