The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority is Hiring a Project Manager – Bus Stops Near Providence, RI

The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) is recruiting internally and externally to the position of
Project Manager-Bus Stops. This is a non-represented full-time position subject to established on-going
longstanding grant funding.
Position Title: Project Manager - Bus Stops
Posting Period: December 18, 2023 through January 31, 2024
Salary: $96,962.59 to $121,203.24 Annum (Pay Grade 901)
Salary to Commensurate Based on Experience
Reports To: Deputy Chief of Planning and Project Management
Union Affiliation: Non-Represented
Description of Work:
RIPTA is seeking a Project Manager responsible for procuring and overseeing the design, permitting and
construction of bus stop shelters, amenities, and signage.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Project Manage multiple concurrent projects to upgrade individual bus stops to add or replace ADA
compliant sidewalks, shelters and amenities including electric power and communication connections,
smart screens, signage, trash receptacles, bike racks, etc.
  • Develop Requests for Proposals and work with RIPTA’s Procurement group to hire consultants and
contractors to design and construct bus stops;
  • Work with RI DOT and local Rhode Island municipalities to coordinate bus stop work with ongoing
roadwork projects.
  • Give presentations before boards, commissions, community groups, and stakeholder agencies (may
include early evening meetings);
  • Use appropriate verification techniques to manage changes in project scope, schedule, and costs;
  • Monitor and control the work of all 3rd party vendors;
  • Report project performance to management on a monthly basis;
  • Complete Project Closeout including final disposition of all drawings, financials, documents, product
manuals, warranties, etc. and turn over all assets to the appropriate Maintenance organization;
  • Support RIPTA’s Planning and Finance groups to apply for and secure Federal and State funding;
  • Support RIPTA’s Marketing group in the sale of advertising in shelters;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

  • A thorough knowledge of principles and practices of project management and a demonstrated work history

of project management;

Rhode Island;

  • Candidate must have a strong history of math and budgetary work performance and superior

communication skills;

  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize; coordinate multiple/complex tasks and activities; and work both

independently and in a team environment;

  • Strong research, analytical, creative thinking, and problem-solving skills;

  • Willingness to travel throughout Rhode Island;
  • Commitment to public transit and sustainability;
  • Ability to motivate, resolve conflicts and make difficult decisions affecting employees and stakeholders;
  • Report and escalate issues to Management as needed;

  • Applicant must provide RIPTA copies of any licensure and/or certifications required to perform job duties

prior to appointment;

  • Applicant must provide RIPTA a copy of degree and/or transcripts from accredited educational institution;
  • Applicants claiming Military status; should submit a copy of the DD-214 form.

Education:

  • An associate degree, bachelor’s degree preferred, in building science, construction engineering,
construction management or civil engineering or a closely related field; and experience such as may have
been gained through employment in a position involving the administration of projects in construction or
transportation;
  • Certified Project Management Professional, PMP, or to be achieved within 1 year of the date of hire.

Experience:

  • Experience in Construction and/or Construction Management on public sector projects;
  • Knowledge and experience with public procurement;
  • Experienced in writing Project Management Plans, developing detailed Project Schedules and subcontract

oversight;

  • Must be proficient in windows-based computer applications including Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Project,
and BlueBeam or AutoCAD.

OR: any combination of education and experience that shall be substantially equivalent to the above education
and experience.

Independent Action:
Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects and priorities with accuracy and
close attention to detail.
