The Marketing, Communications and Fundraising Division, reporting to the CMO, is a highly dynamic and collaborative team that is dedicated to driving a consistent, impactful brand experiences that encourages action. Simply put, we are champions of good marketing. We want to inspire relationships, not transactions - across all key audiences – corporate partners, Large Public Institutions, policymakers, and employees.

The Advisor, Strategic Communications is responsible for planning and implementing media, thought leadership and communications strategies to position Save the Children as a leader and increase brand visibility in front of key B2B and B2C audiences. As a member of the Communications team within the Marketing, Fundraising and Communications division, you will serve as a key partner to the Partnerships & Philanthropy (P&P) division. You will support external communications for a robust portfolio, including, but not limited to, Save the Children’s work with corporate partners, foundations and high-net worth donors. You will identify, secure and coordinate press coverage as well as thought leadership opportunities, inclusive of conferences, panels and media profiles for key leaders across the organization.

What You’ll Be Doing (Essential Duties)

Partnerships & Philanthropy Media and Communications Strategy & Planning (35%)

  • Plan and execute strategic public relations and communications initiatives to grow Save the Children’s profile in front of key P&P audiences.
  • Draft and edit partnership-related materials, including but not limited to, press releases, talking points, statements, quotes and Q&As.
  • Build relationships with national and regional media outlets to secure coverage on our work with partners.
  • Manage partnership communications operations, including press release distribution, media monitoring, and press list building.
  • Coordinate directly with communications counterparts at corporate partners and foundations to achieve shared publicity and communications goals.
  • Aid in the development of innovative content with and for partners for external channels.

Thought Leadership (35%)

  • Identify, plan and coordinate thought leadership opportunities with a primary focus on B2B audiences.
  • Research and share knowledge on competitive landscape.
  • Build and facilitate thought leadership knowledge management across the organization, including lessons learned to inform future strategy.
  • Develop key thought leadership materials, including but not limited to, speaker and award submissions, panel proposals, runs of show, messaging, blogs, etc.

Internal Collaboration and Mobilization (20%):

  • Collaborate with P&P account managers to ensure alignment in supporting shared goals and that communication strategies serve to strengthen partnerships and deliver maximum value for Save the Children.
  • Advise P&P on partner opportunities from a media and communications perspective; serve as a key external communications liaison to P&P division.
  • Partner with other internal teams such as Brand Marketing and Marketing Operations to articulate and reflect core agency objectives and communications priorities in overall marketing and thought leadership plans.
  • Work with the Social Media team, the Office of the President and senior leaders to identify opportunities and develop messaging for awareness and amplification on key platforms such as LinkedIn.

Corporate Communications (10%)

  • Draft and edit corporate communications materials, including but not limited to, trustee and leadership announcements, innovation and technology content and reputation management messaging.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience, plus at least five (5) years of relevant experience
  • Strategic, creative, flexible, and proactive self-starter who can positively and productively support partnership communications
  • Proven writing and editing skills
  • Team player with demonstrated attention to detail and strong organization skills.
  • Knowledge of the media industry, including strong media relations skills
  • Familiarity with thought leadership strategies, inclusive of national and global speaking engagements, events/conferences, and platforms, in sectors relevant to the organization and to key partner, donor and peer audiences
  • Proven project management skills and the ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple priorities
  • Demonstrated influencing, interpersonal, and relationship-building skills
  • Professional proficiency in MS Office suite
  • Professional proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Able and willing to travel up to 10%, primarily domestic travel

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working within a corporation or in partnership with private sector
  • Media relationships at national business publications and on live event programming teams
  • Experience in crisis communications

Compensation

Save the Children is offering the following salary ranges for this position, dependent on candidate location:

  • Geo 1 - NY Metro, DC, and other locations with labor costs significantly above national average: Target Salary for this position is $84,150 – $94,050 base salary
  • Geo 2 - Locations around the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $76,500 – $85,500 base salary
  • Geo 3 - Locations significantly below the US National Labor Cost Average: Target Salary for this position is $68,850 – $76,950 base salary

The salary ranges listed above are for US based candidates. For candidates located outside of the US, salary ranges will be based on the salary scales of the local employer of record.

Actual base salary may vary based upon, but not limited to, relevant experience, base salary of internal peers, business sector, and geographic location (more information on job structure is available here). Employee may be eligible for an incentive program.
