The Lamb Center (TLC) is a daytime drop-in shelter for individuals experiencing homelessness in Fairfax, VA. It provides various services without cost to its guests, including breakfast, lunch, showers, laundry service, Bible study, case management, AA meetings, a nurse practitioner clinic, a dental clinic, and much more. TLC partners with local groups and organizations passionate about serving homeless individuals.

The Lamb Center’s Workforce Development Program provides work-readiness training for individuals with barriers to employment. The program offers a supportive work environment for individuals that meets them where they are and seeks to empower them to reach their greatest employment potential. We partner with the City of Fairfax and Fairfax County to provide green job skills maintaining city parks and public spaces. Skilling workers to excel in the jobs of today and tomorrow will create opportunities for our guests and improve our community. The city, the county, and our guests all benefit from this life-changing program. For some workers, the program serves as a stepping stone to full-time private sector employment; for all involved, it offers the dignity and sense of purpose that comes with earning a paycheck.

About the Transitional Work Program Supervisor Position

The Transitional Work Program Supervisor is a full-time, exempt position that supports both Workforce Development and Lamb Center Operations. Workforce Development responsibilities will include providing transportation and leadership to the teams and supporting all workforce operations under the direction of the Workforce Development Manager. This position also contributes to the Operations team, supporting guests, volunteers, and staff. This position helps to maintain a peaceful, safe, welcoming, and orderly environment, employing trauma-informed de-escalation strategies as needed. The candidate must be able to operate a passenger van. Experience with individuals experiencing homelessness is a plus. This person must fully support the mission, vision, and values of the Lamb Center. Hours are 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Workforce Development Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensures that all workforce operations run smoothly and that best practices are followed. Deescalates situations in the field
  • Lead by example by working alongside the participants but must also make time to check on the different crews and individuals to ensure that the work is performed with excellence and efficiency
  • Nominates and collaboratively selects the worker of the week
  • Completes project work logs with photos and submits to county or city.
  • Drives and maintains the van. Related responsibilities include: ensuring safe transit to and from the job site or other locations as needed, refueling and general maintenance of van
  • Maintains tools and general supplies for projects. Related responsibilities include communication with county and city about what tools and/or supplies to bring to worksite, prepare and load tools, manage inventory
  • Manages personal protective equipment (PPE) and hydration for workers. Related responsibilities include ensuring workers are supplied with workboots, vests and gloves each shift, preparing and transporting daily supply of drinks for workers

Operations Roles and Responsibilities

  • Create a welcoming environment for new and returning guests
  • Monitor the guest service areas, ensuring a clean, safe, and calm environment
  • Appropriately respond to emergencies and conflicts using trauma-informed de-escalation as needed
  • Communicate and uphold Lamb Center Policies and Guest Guidelines, setting limits with guests as appropriate
  • Assist volunteers in all service areas, including setting up, organizing supplies, and filling in as needed
  • Attend staff training and department meetings as needed and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Supervisory experience preferred
  • Valid driver's license and clean driving record required
  • Must be comfortable working outdoors
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness is preferred
  • Basic computer and office skills
  • Understanding of Trauma-informed care practices
  • Current MANDT and CPR/First Aid (or willing to obtain) certifications

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Performance of the essential functions of this job will routinely include the following physical demands:

  • Driving
  • Operating equipment and tools
  • Standing, bending, and crouching
  • Walking a minimum of one mile from transportation
  • Walking and kneeling on uneven or steep surfaces
  • Lifting and carrying a minimum of thirty pounds
  • Pushing and Pulling
  • Climbing
  • Exposure to hot and cold climates
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment
  • Possible contact with individuals in crisis who may not be attentive to basic personal hygiene, health, and safety practices
  • Hours are 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, Monday through Friday

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $43,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
