Boat Inspector Reports to: General Manager Classification: Seasonal, Non-Exempt -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Summary The primary objective of the Boat Inspector is to identify flaws or potential risks to the public, the Agency and our company. The Boat Inspector provides education, safety guidelines, and visual inspections. Essential Functions Is a friendly and helpful resource for visitors; notifies supervisor immediately of any guest dissatisfaction. Maintains a professional relationship with all agency staff; follows non-fraternization policies. Is responsive to all Department of Fish & Game/Agency inquiries with diplomacy and tact. Works safely at all times; ensures personal understanding of agency and company safety and job-related policies, procedures, and objectives. Attends all training and safety meetings and follows established safety protocols. Is aware of and knowledgeable of the DFG's latest instructions and announcements regarding the invasive species. Learns about and distributes the boater education materials provided. Helps boaters care for their craft by providing tips and post-inspection suggestions. Is mindful of the investment boaters have made in their equipment and treats it with great care when boarding and inspecting the vessel. Immediately reports quagga mussel discovery at any stage to local DFG and Agency and prevents vessel release to the owner. Reports any conflicts or altercations with the public to the Rangers as soon as possible. Through frequent inspections and walks around the general area, ensures facilities and equipment are kept clean and in good repair. Monitors all maintenance projects that need attention and informs the project supervisor. Follows Agency requirements for maintaining the landscape, buildings, and the ramp. Resolves concerns of boaters, if possible, by instruction regarding the threat of quagga infestation and ways to pass inspections in the future. Maintains the log of materials consumed, including forms, bands, water, etc. Provides accurate and timely data entry into the QID system, with emphasis on inspection failures. Qualifications Possesses good communications skills, a courteous demeanor, and a helpful attitude. Able to work weekends and holidays, early mornings, evenings and holidays. Successfully complete Quagga Inspector Level 1 training immediately upon placement. Demonstrates basic knowledge test regarding watercraft, including nomenclature and understanding of the various parts of typical pleasure crafts. Ability to enter and exit a vessel using step ladders from the ground onto a trailer mount without causing personal harm or harm to the boat. High school education and ability to read and write English. Ability to accurately enter data into a hand-held communications device (PDA). Ability to physically inspect vessels and facilities which can include positioning oneself, remaining stationary and/or moving around the facility for extended periods of time. Occasional lifting of 20 lbs may be required. Able to work in varying weather conditions. Valid Driver's License, be insurable through our motor vehicle carrier and have access to reliable transportation.
