Available Summer Camp Counselor Positions

Yerba Buena Ice Skating & Bowling Center is a family friendly entertainment facility in downtown San Francisco. Every summer, Yerba Buena Ice Skating & Bowling Center is looking to employ camp counselors that offer meaningful teamwork skills, flexibility to evolve learned and existing skills with leadership, and act promptly in fast paced activities such as ice skating and bowling.

Description

Camp Counselors work under the direction supervision of the Camp Director and are responsible for all aspects of the daily operation of the Summer Camp Program. We are seeking creative, talented young adults at the minimum age of 17 who are serious about providing a meaningful, fun, and safe summer experience for children ages 7 through 12. We need flexible individuals who can work as an integral part of a team, take initiative, are punctual, and are able to make a commitment to work through the entire summer camp season. Employee booklets will be provided and reviewed to all employees. Daily uniform requirements will also be discussed during staff training.

Education

• High School Graduate or equivalent for age 17

Qualifications/ Experience

• Must be able to maintain a positive and safe environment for our campers, parents, and staff; be highly motivated to provide a quality experience for all involved
• Must demonstrate good judgment and understanding of children’s needs; the primary daily activity is supervision of campers during all activities with an emphasis on safety
• Prefer that applicants have experience working with diverse groups of children in organized recreational or educational settings
• Experience preferred in leading recreational activities such as arts and crafts, group games activities, and sports; we are looking for assertive leadership qualities
• First Aid training beneficial

Essential Job Functions

• Assist with daily arts & crafts projects, preparation, and cleanup, ice skating, bowling, and outdoor play
• Comfortable ice-skating ability preferred / figure or hockey
• Be responsible for up to 10 children at a time
• Actively participate in all program areas assigned through the day
• Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers within activities throughout camp. Apply basic youth development principles working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement, and empowerment of youth.

Time Commitment

Summer Camp season: Mid-June through mid-August; staff training will take place the week before camp starts. Camp weeks are 6/10-6/14, 6/17-6/221, 6/24-6/28, (no Camp during the week of Independence Day holiday), 7/8-7/12, 7/15-7/19, 7/22-7/26, 7/29-8/2, 8/5-8/9, and 8/12-8/16. Camp daily hours are 8:30 am – 5:30 pm.

Compensation

Hourly San Francisco Minimum Wage Law 2024 will become $18.25 -$22 per hour, depending on experience. Maximum number of hours daily is 7.5 hours.
