The Way of the Shepherd Catholic Montessori School is seeking a part-time Catechist to guide children in 3rd through 6th grade as they learn and grow in their faith. This position utilizes the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in our atrium, a uniquely Catholic and Montessori environment. Approximately 7 hours per week.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

• Oversee daily operations of the atrium and maintain the integrity of the environment to ensure it is clean, orderly and attractive
• Ensure Archdiocesan standards are met through the development of materials consistent with the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level III
• Plan, organize and supervise appropriate catechesis activities
• Organize and guide the production and maintenance of atrium materials for Level III
• Schedule and coordinate atrium sessions for Level III with Classroom Guides and Head of School
• Guide children for assigned atrium sessions and catechesis activities
• Maintain proper records of student behavior, participation, work and achievement
• Report and document any accidents/incidents or behavior issues
• Understand, share and accept responsibility for the safety and wellbeing of the children at all times
• Attend monthly staff meetings; complete workshops and professional development opportunities as required by or in consultation with the Head of School
• Help coordinate and implement ongoing catechetical formation for parents, catechists and staff (parent education nights, atrium open houses)

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a practicing Roman Catholic, faithful to the Holy Father and the Magisterium of the Church, and actively engaged in growing closer to Our Lord
• Possess certification in the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Level III
• Have an understanding of the Montessori philosophy of education
• Love children and desire to help them in their personal character, virtue, and faith development
• Be able to discipline children positively with gentleness, firmness, and consistency
• Be able to maintain strong relationships with parents; characterized by mutual respect, good will, and with the understanding that parents are the primary educators of their children
• Complete a background check and Archdiocesan Virtus® training (required before start date)
• Maintain professionalism in speech, dress, action, and confidentiality
