The Welding Supervisor is responsible for both supervising employees and being a productive member of the production team. This is a working supervisory role.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Demonstrate excellent leadership skills by promoting a positive team environment. This includes setting an example of good work ethic, striving for exceptional quality of work, and demonstrating a willingness to put forth extra effort when needed. 

Oversees all welders to ensure they are abiding by the company’s policies. The Welding Supervisor is encouraged to have frequent and regular 1:1 conversations with all of their direct reports. They manage employee performance by providing feedback to direct reports through the company’s formal review process and on a more frequent basis, as needed.

Must lead and model safe work practices by following the company policies and ensuring that safety is at the forefront of priorities every workday. Ensure all employees are trained in how to safely complete each project prior to assigning it to them. Ensures that all equipment, material, tools, and fixtures are in good operating condition.

Directs the welding department’s workflow, by ensuring all employees have the resources needed to complete each project accurately and safely. The Welding Supervisor is accountable for the welding department’s workflow, overall goal completion and quality. They must coordinate between the office and production staff to ensure each project is moving at a satisfactory pace towards on-time completion. Must demonstrate flexibility as priorities change for projects/customers.

Be a trainer or resource for all direct reports and Welding personnel. This includes all opportunities for training, such as, onboarding/initial training, tool use and machine operation safety, at assignment of each project, at job change or promotion, for cross-training purposes, or any other training opportunities.

Support management in making necessary changes to pursue organizational objectives.

Coordinate the daily lead meetings, sharing pertinent information with the Plant Manager.

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for managing most consumable orders for the shop floor.

The Welding Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the AWS records for the welding department.

Participate as an active member of the ProForm Safety Committee as well as be an advocate for employee safety.

Production Responsibilities:

Metal fabrication of parts and machinery using various welding, cutting and grinding techniques.

Physical requirements include laying, standing, bending, twisting and reaching. Must be able to stand for the duration of the shift. This would include frequently lifting objects up 20-70 lbs. or operating a crane for heavier materials.

Must complete housekeeping duties in their areas as necessary.

Examine and measure work pieces to detect possible defects to ensure conformance with specifications. Report all non-conforming material.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be able to safely operate various types of production equipment as well as operation of a forklift, scissor lift and overhead cranes.

Position requires excellent math and problem-solving skills with the ability to proficiently read and interpret blueprints, welding process specifications, welding symbols, and job packet material. Must be able to work with engineering and programing departments to ensure process documentation and blueprints are accurate.

A successful Welding Supervisor must have strong communication skills to aid in training and explaining technical questions as well as the details of the projects being completed. They must be able to effectively communicate with the employees that they oversee as well as members of the office and management teams. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

The ideal candidate will have 5 years of applicable experience in TIG and MIG welding as well as experience managing direct reports.
