OmniTRAX is looking to hire a Roadmaster to join our dynamic team of employees in a fast-growing, fast-paced work environment.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Roadmaster plans all track-related activities including, but not limited to: working with railroad management to define priorities, establish performance expectations, performance metrics and measurements, and evaluate performance to plan, and the improvement of overall activities for the Maintenance of Way (MOW) department. Ensures safe completion of work activities to meet customer expectations and company standards and objectives.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operation and the Federal Railroad Association (FRA)
  • Promote and support safety programs and safety goals for all Maintenance of Way groups on the railroad
  • Articulate a focused, clear vision for the strategic priorities of the business and aggressively drive those of highest importance throughout the property
  • Develop work plans and track maintenance activities to support operating efficiencies and the railroad’s customer service commitments
  • Work with the General Manager and Engineering Department to assign and prioritize programs for maintenance operations and capital budgets
  • Schedule activities of contractors engaged in the maintenance and repair of railroad track; assign/prioritize programs and projects for maintenance forces
  • Ensure engineering instructions pertaining to inspections, maintenance, and construction work is adhered to by contractors
  • Conduct audit inspections of railroad and customer infrastructure assets for any defects affecting safe operation of train traffic; input findings into applicable database system (ENSCO)
  • Develop budget and comply to budget; monitor spend in materials, usage and inventory
  • Develop and execute engineering plans that achieve the capital program
  • Ensure cooperation, communication and interaction with all functions of the property and upper management, as appropriate
  • Perform CDL work to meet qualifications of the FMCSA Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Subpart B: Qualification and Disqualification of Drivers and other regulations as applicable, including but not limited to, Part 391.11
COMPENSATION
  • FLSA Status: Exempt, Not Eligible for Overtime
  • Eligible for Participation - Annual Discretionary Bonus

OTHER DUTIES
  • Assist with training programs; identify appropriate type and level of training needed for engineering work groups
  • Develop understanding and knowledge of the business and service needs of internal/external customers
  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  • Wear required protective equipment such as: hard hats, hearing protection, safety-toe boots or safety glasses
  • Maintain DOT qualifications
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime and various shift work
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 3 years’ job related work experience
  • Understand interdepartmental railroad operations
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, right-of-way maps and construction plans
  • Write legibly to complete reports and other company documents
  • Thorough understanding of Track Safety Standards and document items of non-compliance
  • Knowledge of contracts and contract management
  • Read and comprehend published rules, procedure and manuals, government regulations, operating and maintenance instructions, memos, and other work-related information
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills; effectively communicate with all level of employees and business associates in a clear, concise, and professional manner
  • Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills to react to emergencies and unplanned events in a calm, efficient, and effective manner
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office; learn and use track inspection data management software
  • Professional integrity and accountability
  • Work in fast-paced, collaborative environment
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES
  • Valid State Driver’s License - CDL (or attain one within 90 days); pass medical certification and Drivers Qualification File, pass DOT Drug & Alcohol testing
  • Qualified on FRA Title 49 Part 213 and Part 214
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Previous experience in Rail Transportation, Supply Chain Logistics, Manufacturing and/or Oil & Gas industries
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Experience with ENSCO or other Track Inspection data management software(s)

  • Exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy conditions caused by the weather including: snow, rain, heat, and sub-freezing temps
