POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Alfond Youth and Community Center is Maine's largest licensed childcare facility! We can only serve the youth in our community with the help of our counselors. We are currently looking for Substitute Counselors to help fill in when there is a need in our scheduling. This position is responsible for leading a group of children in the childcare program activities as well as guiding/helping the children adjust and grow within the program guidelines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Demonstrate willingness to participate in all areas of the After-School Program
• Responsible for a group of thirteen (13) children, helping each child adjust and grow with other children within the program guidelines.
• Plan and implement daily curriculum for children to follow
• Abilities to observe student behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce relevant safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques
• Assist with all After-School Program activities and other activities as assigned
• Maintains safety, cleanliness, and discipline of children, area and equipment 

Requirements

 SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

• Skills in problem solving
• Must have excellent communicate skills and the ability to work with groups participating (age and skill level), and provide necessary instruction to children

WORK SCEHDULE: 

• Varies based on need & location
• Monday - Friday for 10 weeks from June - August
• Temporary - This position has the potential to transition to a similar position in the fall or our Afterschool program.

 KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

• High School Education or GED is required
• Must be 18 years of age or older.

EXPERIENCE:

• 2 years of relevant experience
• CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification is required 
• Basic childcare skills required
