Position Description:
The Youth Recreation Leader, an AmeriCorps member, will be an essential member of the team for this young non-profit organization. This AmeriCorps member will assist with the development and implementation of the Student Stewards Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer Camps. The camps focus on outdoor STEAM (science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics) curriculum for economically disadvantaged students. Campers engage in hands-on community science research with a goal of improved academic engagement and better preparation for educational success, field trips, and of course copious amounts of fun! In addition to the development and planning of camp curriculum and activities, the duties of the Youth Recreation Leader include maintaining program materials, set-up and clean-up for the daily activities, and managing recreational field trips.
This position will also actively support our partnership with Burton’s CHILL Foundation. CHILL’s mission aims to inspire young people through board sports and build a more equitable outdoor community. Through this program, The Parks Foundation gives our youth program participants a chance to engage in board sports (skateboarding, snowboarding, wakesurfing, paddle boarding, etc) they otherwise would not be able to try due to economic hardship.
Additionally, as our Youth Recreation programs continue to grow, the Youth Recreation Leader will help us develop new outdoor programming.
