Why we need you

We are seeking an experienced Groundskeeper & Landscaper to join our facilities maintenance team. This is a hands-on position performing a wide range of duties including maintaining the landscape design, removing weeds and dead plants, maintaining trail system, and care for natural habitats and permaculture systems. In this position, you will ensure the growth and vibrancy of our plants, flowers, trees and general landscape. 

As part of the facilities maintenance team, scope outside of groundskeeping and landscaping are expected at times, such as minor property repairs and maintenance, market garden support and farm support. This position will report to the Campus Engineer. 

Requirements

Primary Responsibilities

• Participate in the planning and prioritizing of property needs.
• Mowing and edging various parts of the property using a variety of equipment.
• Weeding and mulching landscape beds.
• Noxious weed removal from agricultural land.
• Trimming trees, hedges and shrubs. Pruning fruit trees.
• Operating and maintaining hand and power-driven tools, such as loppers, saws, shovels, hedge trimmers, and weed eaters, efficiently and in good working order.
• Maintains repair of equipment and vehicles.
• Removes snow, ice, branches and leaves as needed.
• Trail maintenance including chip spreading, weeding and debris removal.
• Loads and unloads equipment and tools into work vehicles and/or trailers.
• Irrigation systems installation and maintenance.
• Fencing installation, repair and maintenance.
• Adheres to all safety precautions.
• Completing minor repair and maintenance work as needed, including basic carpentry, plumbing, electrical, equipment maintenance, and furniture/equipment moving.

Requirements and skills

• Proven work experience as a Groundskeeper, Landscaper or similar role.
• Must be able to operate maintenance equipment including lawnmowers, leaf blowers and hedge trimmers.
• Lifts 50 pounds and handles the physical demands of the job, including standing, bending, lifting, pulling, and climbing.
• Strong knowledge of basic lawn maintenance.
• Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency, and ability to learn and apply new skills.
• Strong time management skills and the ability to effectively handle multiple projects at one time.
• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.
• Must have clean driving record in order to drive company vehicles.
